7.62x54r - How'd I Make Out?

Hello,

I went to the gunstore today to see if they had any 7.62x54r.

They had a total of 40 rounds: A box of Silver Bear 203gr soft point for $10.50 and a box of Sellier and Bellot 180gr FMJ for $13.95.

I wish they'd had more of each, but alas, that's the way things work.

I believe the Silver Bear is just a zinc plated version of my Barnaul soft point. Both are made by Barnaul and both are 203 grain, and both are labeled as being made by Barnaul. The only difference is in the case. The Silver Bear seems to have had more care taken with the case, and I'm wondering if that's the only difference?

The S&B have brass cases. I think these are reloadable. Am I right? I'm reading stuff on the 'net about S&B brass not being up to snuff...?

How are the prices? Average? Above? Below?

Thanks,

Josh <><

You did pretty good, the S&B usually sells for around $15.00, not sure about the Silver Bear, but it sounds pretty reasonable. FWIW, I've been reloading S&B brass for several years with no problems at all. It's as good as most of the commercial Rem. and Win. brass. The primer pockets are a bit strange, sort of tapered to the middle, but they work fine.

I think you did ok. I went to a local gun and knife show yesterday and Silver Bear(14.50) was all I saw. No mil surp, bulk or otherwise. Could of missed some of course. Did find a couple of nice USGI M1 carbine MAGAZINES. And some reasonable .45 LC JHP. The 7.62 x54 R seemed scarce.
