| Sticky bolt? Finaly took my m91/dragoon/still havent figured out exactly what it is to the range today, and the bolt seized up chambering the 20th round. I couldnt rotate the bolt to the right, or pull it back to eject the round. after fiddling with it for about 10 minutes, the bolt just came loose, and was able to be cycled like normal. i didnt fire off any more rounds, since i figured i should be sure 100% sure of a 103 year old gun before firing it any more. was that just an example of sticky bolt syndrome, or could it be something else? |

| Doesn't sound like typical sticky-bolt syndrome, as that usually involves being stuck after firing. It may have been the extractor on the bolt catching on a burr or something of that nature, since it didn't fully chamber. There could also be a burr in the chamber that the bullet caught up on. I'm guessing that you've cleaned both the bore and the chamber well of copper fouling (ammonia) and of cosmoline (heat and solvent or aggressive solvent like acetone) so there shouldn't be too much in the way of sticky bolt. Take a look into the chamber with a light to see if there's any obstructions either in the chamber or in the little groove at the back (at the top right where the rim-face sits) for the extractor.

| sticky bolt What did the round you couldnt chamber look like and the caseing on previous round?I wonder if the previous round ruptured? It dont take much to make it stick if it rubtured even a little >>I think like prviously stated I would check chamber and bore and it everything is ok try to take it outside and cycle a few round thro it and make sure there isnt a problem |

| Resident Armed Liberal ![]() | I agree; look the round over thoroughly that did the sticking. Then try cycling a few rounds through it without firing them, and see if it'll happen again. It may be some fluke thing that you'll never explain.

| I was using silver bear commercial stuff, so I dont think it was a problem with the ammo. The round looked fine, and i didnt see any ruptured cases cleaning up my brass(steel). guess its back to the range then, see if it happends again. |
