I had my new Garand and also one of my M44's. (remember, logic) As usually happens when you're shootin' old iron at a range, everyone had to look at both rifles.. The Garand is beautiful, elegant, and damned near sexy, but the stupid $70 Mosin was the star of the show, and even more so after I fired the first round..

Even though the Garand shot better, cost more, and looks nicer, 80% of the questions were about the Mosin..

Get 2.. They're cheap and it'll only cost a bit more for shipping..
Dont you just love it??

Well, Alright then! You need a private with you and I am the one to do it. That is if Civil air patrol service counts. And Actually I was a cadet airman.

My wife wont let me get a C&R license. She's afraid the ATF is going to rummage through her panty drawer. I've tried to reassure her that this won't happen. A little more coaxing maybe. It took her 5 years of our marriage (this May, yay!) for her to break down and let me have something other than pellet rifles in the house. I just ordered a 91/30 to add to my M44 that I got last month. I'm kind of on restriction now.... She tells me I have no use for a C&R now that I have too many guns.

Maybe we with experience can help you out a bit. Here are a couple of ways around your...uh...problem.

First good way it to produce an empty gun case and say that you are taking this to the gunsmith. Important not to say this 'rifle' or this 'firearm". Just taking this (empty case) to the gunsmith. Then go buy your firearm lock it in your case and leave it somewhere, car, office, friend's house, or somewhere safe for a couple days. Then retrieve the prize and walk into the kitchen like you own the place. After all you and your wife do own the place. If she asks you have simply say "Oh, I just got this (case) back from the gunsmith. If she asks what "that" is you simply simply produce the firearm and ssay..."this? Oh, I have had it a while. Ain't it nice?" Careful not to say how long a "while" is.

Second good way is to just buy the firearm. Bring it home and leave it in the trunk of your car. When she is asleep simply sneak it in through the basement window. Lock it in your gun safe and make sure she can not get to the key for a couple months. If she asks about what that shiny new rifle is, same answer as above.

Thirdly, is to simply wait until her birthday or ya'lls anniversary and present her enthusiastically with that prize shotgun she has always wanted! Oh, Wait, you didn't want a shotgun?!! Well, can I have it? Make sure you have a VERY nice gift on hand just as a back up plan.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Tex! Actually If I buy enough she might not know the difference between one rifle and the other. That is unless my dreams come true and she starts to learn and be more interested in these things. Then I wont have a problem at all. Would you believe that she likes watching me clean and fondle these things? I guess she likes watching her boy be a man from time to time.

Here is how it worked:

I bought a 1953 Romainian M44 from a freind at work ($60 and he threw in 500 rounds of Czech Milsurp). Showed it to the wife, and she was noticably upset (California girl so thinks guns are dangerous and violent).

Dejectedly, I agreed to sell it (keeping the ammo of course), but said I'd like to just take up target shooting with a "small" .22. Reluctantly, I got agreement so bought a Marlin 795. With a scope it looked, and I quote, "cute".

Next came the SKS. First I showed her how small the round is compared to the 7.62 x 54R (remember the Czech ammo?) and went into the "I'm just collecting these as a hobby" explaination. By then I also had my C&R (a vital aid to saving money at my new hobby) and I made sure that she knew it stood for "curios", as in figurines and nick-nacks, and "relics"... as in antique things. These are things that women can identify with.

The next M44 (Natalia) was disassembled and brought in as a new relic restoration project, and the rest is history. Nothing like a really cosmolene encrusted M44 to lend credence to the antique story, and it was a 1947 which is my birth year, so... awww.

It's taken about 3 years, and now we might be ready for an antique Nagant pistol to camoflage the FEG 63... yes I know the FEG is not a C&R. And I'm still trying to come up with a good story for the CCW class, but I've come so far.

Patience my son... patience.

I don't have the problem, but bringing a disassembled C&R piece in as a project...very nice.

Fix a toaster or something...make it look like the skills transfer to her benefit.

Devious. I like it.

I literally LOL'd! hehehe

Thanks for the joke marion but I think the muzzle of my m44 would be pointed at me if I told her that one. hehe, She would probably just stab me with the bayonet being that she won't allow ammo in the house. I have to store it at a buddys house a few miles away. It's part of the deal.

She usually likes jokes like that, but not in this situation....... hehe.

By the way this is all great advice! Thanks! I just stopped by Big5 during my break. They had a Lee Enfield for 149. GRRR! I want that! Too bad I just got a 91/30 this weekend.

How much is the C&R license? I'm just wondering if it would be worth it for just 1 or 2 more rifles (assuming I have great self-control!)
