M91 Rear Sights

OK Mosineers- Time to put your thinking caps on! I want to remove this rear sight. Our buddies at 7.62x54.net say it is on a dovetail & soldered in place. Looking at the sight and the way it hugs the barrel contour, it simply doesn't seem logical for it to tap left to right in the dovetail! It would have to cut into the bore! I am working on better pics, but these are the best I have for now. Is it possible it goes FORWARD? What say you?

YEP - longitudinal rail (front to rear).

Tap forward or to rear, or does it matter?

Yeah, from the pictures, if he goes to the rear, he won't be able to get it off because of the receiver bulge. E.g., it must have to be tapped-off from rear to front.

Steve,
If you lift the rear sight blade and look carefully, you can see the dovetail outline just above the barrel and the sight wraps around it...Carefully drive the sight assembly forward towards the front sight to remove it!
Carefully is the Word of the Day here !

Thanks Guys- This sight has some yellow plastic or such like in the middle of the sight base, so will have to deal with that first!

Update- Finally cleaned the sight up with acetone. Still don't know what that yellow stuff was all about. Everything is there, and seems to work. Still scrubbing the bore though.
