That's high to me. I haven't paid over $60 (plus shipping) for a Mosin yet.

Well, yeah I have, come to think of it. For a WWI New England Westinghouse M91.

I've got some Scotch-Irish ancestors. I make old Abe squeal before I turn loose of him.

I hate you. I want one and I can't afford one right now. I guess I'll just have to wait until my C&R comes through and I can bid on the auction sites for one.

My family name's German, and reportedly was a medieval German word meaning "helmet" that was used as a slang term for a shiny bald head. I resemble that remark.

Like most Americans, I'm a mutt, not a purebred.

My M38 from I.O. came today. I'm very pleased. It's a 1943, Izhevsk made as nearly all of them are. It's got the rough wartime exterior finish on the receiver. It's been reblued and neatly shellacked, of course, but hasn't been polished to take down any of the surface markings. It's in an original wartime M38 stock, not an M44 stock, and looks as though the numbered parts could plausibly all be original though the bolts, floorplates and buttplates generally have been renumbered to match the barrel. The barrel's nicely free floated as it should be, and has perfect rifling. Came swabbed out; someone's checked the rifling. It's counterbored, as they usually did in the rearsenalling process whether it was needed or not. It really is a lovely, light, handy little thing. I'm looking forward to shooting it!

Not to hi-jack the thread/post but-You guys are really making me want to get one of these you know. Either this model or a 91/30. I like the thought of owning something that has some history and a lot of character.

In reading the many other posts and seeing pictures, it is getting harder and harder to fight the mosinitis that is beginning to over power me. Especially for the prices I'm seeing these things going for.

OK, I read horror stories about people who bought from IO and did not have good experiences. For example, orders not being shipped for a long time. Have they changed recently?

With my two recent orders from them, I got a round receiver 1938 Tula M91/30 instead of the "octagon" I'd ordered for $10 more. It is a very nice one. When I called back, the nice lady on the phone offered to refund my $10; they'd sold out of M91/30s during the week they were on sale. I got the $10 off on the M38, and as they went on sale shortly after I called, she took the additional amount off for the sale price. They were terribly backed up with more orders than they could handle, and shipping slowly. I ended up calling back to check on the status, and to let her know I'd had to change my credit card number due to a fraud problem. Gave her the new one. A week later I called back and she said she'd tried to call me, the credit card number wasn't right. Dunno if she was still trying to use the old one or copied the new one down wrong, but I gave it to her again and it went through.

They're nice folks who've been overextended lately. Be patient and cut them some slack. They're a lot nicer about it than Samco, and quicker besides.

The M91/30, 1895 Nagant and M38 I recently got from them are all fine examples, and one thing I especially appreciate are their small, relatively inconspicuous import marks. I had to look for it on the Nagant.
