| Senior Member | First And Last Groups of the Day - Prone This Time Hello, I thought you might like to see this. I tried the Mosin M44 prone for the first time. I've always shot it standing. The reason for this was that, last time I went prone with anything, it was in grass and I got chiggers really bad. Not an excuse I know, but it has been a deterrent! I am especially proud of this group. I didn't think the rifle was capable of this, but it plunked three of the five rounds into one hole. The one on the far left was a first shot flyer from a slick bore (didn't patch it before shooting) and the one a bit further up is my fault. It seems my carbine really likes S&B FMJ. It definitely likes the heavier bullets. This is a 10 round group. The hole on the lower left has two in it, but I'm also missing two. Ammo was 203gr Barnaul SP, and I was wearing down when I shot it. Though I can't prove it, I don't think the SP ammo is as accurate as FMJ simply because of the slightly deformed lead on the end. I did drift the front sight a bit to the left before I started cleaning the rifle as I was shooting to the left, but I've not tried shooting it again. Maybe tomorrow. I also need to rig up a better rest for prone shooting. I rolled up two towels and just used them. I didn't like the way they shifted. Josh

| Senior Bear Fluffer ![]() | Dat's some good shootin'! I hope to get out and shoot my two new Mosin's soon. Will probably have my 91/30 ready to shoot before the weekend is out. The M44 should be ready in a couple weeks. Just taking time to clean and reclean. I hope to find some good cheap ammo on order here before long as well.

| Senior Member | My denim has all gone to my handgun bullet tests... I'll have to figure out where to find some around here. Then again, I was toying with the idea of taking one of my jack stands and padding it... Josh

| Resident Armed Liberal ![]() | You can make good ones out of old blue jeans legs, and smaller ones from the arms of old denim jackets. I vandalized a perfectly good jacket a couple of years ago, and turned it into a vest by swiping the arms. My wife said it was a !@#$ good thing it wasn't one she bought me...

| Member | Wow, I haven't seen anyone get a shot group that tight for some time. I haven't grouped with any gun set aside from an M-16 when I went through basic, and that group is as tight as mine was. Very impressive. I know every mosin is accurate, just depends on the shooter and ammunition. |

| Senior Member | Ah, gotcha'. I was thinking "gravy" as in "gravy train!" I was born blond. Mostly grew out of it though. Mostly.
