Ammo or Rifle

I have 1953 M44 That ive had for a couple of years. I had actually bought several and made one really nice one. I liked the stock on one and the hardware of the other. I gave the one to my dad that i didnt want, that sounds horrible but it was nice as well. I shot that one before i gave it to him with out any problems. I got mine out today to shoot and i had three consecutive rounds that did not fire. Upon ejection they were all struck on the primer. I have to admit i kind of got a little spooked, so i didnt try anymore.

The ammo was mil-surp and green in color. How likely is it that it's bad ammo. It's in a green box of 20. I would think if it were a firing pin problem it would'nt have dented the primer like it did, but i really don't know.

Did you use the Screwdriver Tool for mosins that has the firing pin gauge cut into it ? If the bolt was disassembled and the pin not reset , It may be a light strike, Just not quite enough..075 is Min, and .095 is Max.... Otherwise, you may have some bad ammo.

Then you probably didn't. It's a teardrop shaped deal.

They're very cheap to order off the internet. Something like five bucks max.

Personally I'd switch to some other ammo and see what happens first, if you don't have the tool, and if it's been firing well up to this point.

The most common cause of a light strike on the primer resulting in failures to fire in these old milsurps is cosmoline hiding out inside the bolt. Take it apart and clean everything inside it really well.
