| Joined the club, first mossin pics well I finally found a big 5 that had the m44's in stock. so I walked away with the last one for $85 out the door. It's not in shining shape, but I'm cleaning her up. Couple of questions: Anything I should specifically check for on a mossin before firing it? What are my best options on decent milsurp ammo? and any good websites to buy from? Any good idea's on how to refinish the stock? ![]() ![]() ![]()

| Congrats on your Mosin! Aimsurplus.com and Gunbroker.com are good sources to buy ammo from! Probably the main thing to check is the bolt, butt plate, receiver, and magazine. Check to make sure all of the numbers match. Otherwise, just make sure you clean all the cosmoline out!

| Welcome to the club. I recently purchased an M44 from Big 5 and after I got it home I realized that the extractor was broken on the bolt. Had to order another one. |

| Bullet Maintenance !! ![]() | Learn to strip it down, then clean, clean, clean, and be aggressive. heck as above for ser#'s. If they all match, leave the stock alone!! If'n they don't go back one year on this forum, nd read, read, read. Then come back with seciicqestions. There is more info on these pages than you can ever find elsewhere. Welcome aboard!!!

| That's a fine-looking rifle. Why would you feel a need to refinish the stock? |

| I caught Mosinitis a month ago and three later am now in the market for a finn. Great fun. I still have not had a chance to shoot any of them! I will this week though. I just got to get back home from Texas. DANG, I wish there was a big 5 by me!

In addition, the 91/30's removable bayonet also has a stamped serial number, but almost never matches, even if the gun is all-matching. Honestly, I'm not sure if the bayonet on the M44 has a number stamped on it, as I don't own one. Perhaps another owner can clear that one up.

| I found them. Silly me, I was looking for whole numbers, not Russian script and numbers. All of them I've found are matching.
