Going sniper

I wanted to convert my existing 91/30
to a PU sniper version, I have heard that all the scopes avaliable have cheap aluminum mounts, I really do not care if it is origianal or not, but I want a steal scope mount, or somthing that is durable, does any one know were I can get one? What about a bent bolt?
Any other good ways to mount a scope?

Here's a steel mount with scope for the 91/30 Original PU Scope and Mounting Set - Kalinka Optics Warehouse®

here's a picture of the steel mount next to the craptastic aluminium mount, and for those people who have one of these rifles with the aluminium mount the steel mount will not "drop in" the holes and pins are in different positions and need to be redrilled for the steel mount.

Thanks for this info, I am going to wait a while before I do this, because I have already got my springfield 03 glass bedded, free floated, and drilled and tapped for a scope, so I dont want to drop another 300 bucks right now on a mosin.
But I will get to it soon. When It comes to guns money seems to be an object.

What kind of accuracy do you get with your scoped 91/30?

This was at 50 yards on a somewhat stable range bag, my mosin is also free floated which really helped the accuracy. I'm pretty sure that if I put it in a mechanical rest it would shoot 4 out of 5 rounds into the same hole or very close.

The ammo I used was Hungarian Silver tip, head stamp 21 over 76.

Hmm, not to bad, so if I shot handloads at 100 yards, I could expect about two inch groups, so at 500 yards it would be a 10 inch spread. I like that. Good lookin rifle Zephri.

With a little luck getting the right gun (and some skill), one-inch groups at a hundred yards are a quite reasonable possibility, MM.

hey mr. marksman, another thing you can consider is taking off the rear sight and putting a scout mount in its place then put a good long eye relief scope on. you can get both for less than$150.00 and you dont have to replace the bolt.

I remembered in reading other posts on the Mosins, that there was a link to someone that made bolts for them. So I took a look and found the link for you.
Bent bolts for the Mosin Nagant and Mauser rifles

Good luck on your project.

Most mount scout scopes, as they're the cheapest route to go! If'n you want something to use your iron sights thru, then get ready to buy a pony, and then some! Marion and others can steer you better'n me!

There has got to be a 100 different manufacters of scope mounts and everone has there own Ideas e baby has a bunch and even amazon.com some and natchez,J&G ..I personally dont like scopes but to each his own..I have owned many and havent found one yet that gives you the field of view you get with open sites LOL.. most of the mounts for snipers have to be drilled and tapped
eBay mount and copy of original scope made in russia

That's what Swedesteve meant by mounting scout scopes. Many here have done it with successful results and improved accuracy.
