| Senior Member | I have to wonder what my grandpa on my dad's side would've thought of my Mosin. He was a Marine and was stationed at Los Alamos, where my dad was later born. No, I'm not BSing. Anyway, he was a very good marksman. Better than my dad... well, that may not be saying much. But he liked showing off and making smiley faces with bullet holes. lol... the thing that still gets me is his description of Winston Churchill, whom he was apparently appointed to protect while in the US... "Cheap bastard couldn't buy his own cigars."

| Senior Member | wow, nice vids, wish my fave Mosin would have the same effect on a deer that the shockwave had on that school bus My fave Mosin-Nagant is my 1936 M91/30, soon to be scoped. My fave Russian-made gun is my Rom-Arm WASR-10 underfolder. Soon to be owner of another mosin, didnt check to see what it was, but it looked like a short M91/30, and as I've heard it means it's either an M91/59 or an M38. Might keep it a while, but i prefer long rifles, so I might be selling it soon after, I'll put pics up when I get it and if I decide to sell it i'll announce it here so you guys get an early heads up. If the moderators have a problem with it, please respond or PM me, and I won't post anything about selling it. Thanks for the wonderful informative site. My fave sign is as follows: No Trespassers! Violators Will Be Shot! Survivors Will Be Shot Again! By the way, the milsurp yellow tipped 'heavy rounds' are going for $5/round here, very limited quantities. But, I saw where someone decided to test a couple out and they shoot thru cast iron at short range like it was butter. Shot a railroad iron at the thin spot and it actually went thru it, very surprised there, left a hole about size of a quarter, and cracked the rail. Have no idea if it was original yellow tip, or if it was a reload that someone packed alot of powder into, but the case was steel, and an FMJ with yellow on the end, and the throat showed a lil red. That was kool as hell tho, never seen a gun do that before :P Last edited by Mike82; 02-08-2008 at 08:25 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

| Senior Member | Sounds like the Hungarian Heavy Ball, of which there are three varieties listed on 7.62x54.net:
The last of the Hungarian is lead-core, but the first two are "mild steel core". They're not "hardened steel" like armor-penetrating ammo, but it will certainly penetrate better than straight lead. I'm guessing it was likely one of the first two, of which you can discern from the lacquered or copper-wash case. Oh, and $5/round is highway robbery. Here's some 7.62x54R Bulgarian Heavy Ball FMJ ammo, brass case, 300 rd tin. that's $45.93+$19.13 shipping = $65.06/300 rounds = $0.21686/round See what I mean? Also, if you want some lead-core heavy ball, check this out: Ammunition To Go : 250rds - 7.62x54R Bulgarian Military 182gr. FMJ Ammo - $39.95

| Senior Member | Now that's a surprise, because here they advertise the silver tips as armor-piercing, and the yellow tips as tank-piercing, rofl Silver-tipped czech-made 185gr: 18.99/20 or 699/1000 Yellow-tipped (guessing hungarian-made) unknown grain: 99.99/20 or 399/50 but you can only buy 50 rounds a day due to "limited supply" So if I can get em for that price, maybe I can get a few friends to make it known that I'm selling for say $1/round of yellow tip and piss-off a few dealers That oughtta be interesting. Do you have to have an FFL tho to buy yellow-tip? Since from what i've heard they are consider military only ammo. May be just a rouse to make people pay more locally. |

| Senior Member | You do not need an FFL to purchase ANY kind of ammo... and have it shipped to your door. Many places require a signature, but I don't have a problem with that. Some states/localities do have laws against some specialty ammo such as tracers, incendiaries, and such, but most don't. Just be sure your laws don't regulate ammo and you're good to go. Check out both J&G Sales and Ammunition To Go. They both have a lot of good ammo and ATG has about all the specialty ammo you could want!

![]() I think there are even some states that may ban that, too. Again, check the laws before purchasing, as with any firearms-related item!
