Favorite Mosin I own:

What model that you own, is your favorite rifle to take out and shoot? And why? Stay on thread, and educate those about to buy a Mosin!

Well... my favorite is also the only one I currently own... and I think this one will likely remain my favorite even when I get other models- my M39.

I've been out shooting with it once so far since I got it, and I put a hundred rounds through it. At 100 yards (keep in mind, this is the first time I'd fired a rifle of any kind in about 8 years, and even then had little experience with one), I felt like I was barely stretching this beauty's legs.

My favorite Mosin tends to be whichever one I have in my hands that day. But I may have a bit of a soft spot in my heart for the New England Westinghouse I put into a refinished Finnish stock...

I also think I'm really going to like my new 91/59:

Then again, I still like the first M39 I bought. And the second one too, come to think of it...okay, I'm back to my favorite being whichever of the nine I happen to be holding at the moment. That isn't much help, is it?

ive got a 91-30
m-44
m-38
the 91-30 is my favorite because of it's length.
i call it my IVAN CROCKETT gun
i like how it looks.
it just looks old and i think that it's neat.
i could take it hunting but i wont because i already own more accurate rifles that are better suited for the job.
for the price of a dinner for two i dont understand why everybody doesnt have at least one.
p.s. that dinner doesnt count drinks!

i use cheap bulk ammo and clean well.

Well, since I only own a 91/30, I guess that would have to be my favorite. But if my C&R license goes through, LOOK OUT!

I would have to say, my M39 ismy favorite to shoot, just ahead of my M91/30PU.
When I get my order from Midway, I can begin to wring out the accuracy of this M39!

I circulate through them almost at random, Steve. I usually take out the latest one I've bought or worked on, and then grab a couple more for good measure.

If I were deer hunting I'd almost certainly go with an M39 or my new 91/59, more for ease of handling than because I'm worried about the accuracy of the others. They all shoot better than I can hold them, even the Romanian Instructie.

But like Billy, I also like the old ones just because they're so long and dramatic-looking, on top of being noisy and having lots of history in them.

Currently all I own is an M44. I like the short length and plan on using it for deer.

I own a 91/30, and two M44s. I will pass judgment on which one I like best when I shoot them. I find the m44 stout, short and quite formidable. My 91/30? well, it is a lot like the women I am most attracted to...they wouldn't see the cover of vogue but they all have that certain aura that is truly impossible for me to resist. Strong, sensible, nice lines and not something anyone would want to get on the wrong side of.

Billy's buying the next round! Of ammo that is! Man, I wish I was back in good 'ol GA with this M39, or M44... Put some meat in the freezer, QUICK! Used to have a OIC with a house in AL where we could shoot deer out of his bedroom window at -100M!
I don't know what the reg's are now, but back then it was a deer a day! Any 'Bama Boys with an update!

My 1947 M44... as it was born the same year I was.

I like the 1948 (M44) and the 91/30, but the 1947 is my favorite.

Geo, you were 5 when I was born! Do you remember the "duck and cover" drills in school?

I was born in 1949; my 17-year-old son thinks I'm older than dirt.

Swede- I'm not sure. About half of it was in plain light blue boxes... the cartridges did not have the red seals on the primers or at the throat. I can only assume surplus, but it was soft point. The other kind I had Was in a fancier box... showed some guy with his hunting rifle in the wilderness, and said "hunting rounds," but I don't recall a brand being named on the box. These also were jacketed soft point, and did have the red seals on primer and throat. Both types of bullets were in green casings.
