"tactical" M44 LOL...

Don't you just hate it when people paint something black and then call it tactical.lol

Anyway here's my "tactical" m44. This is the evolution (if you will) of the first cheap $57.00 military rifle I owned. I thought i might mod it a bit after that it just spiraled out of control and I fell into the surplus modification rifleitis syndrome.

Started out with a huge scope and muzzle break, ati stock mount and bolt mod. Took it to the range and it sucked. I hated the scope. This was not a good rifle to mount a 50mm on LOL. Plus I had a bit of rust showing on the top of the barrel that was now exposed. I needed to change it.

I then replaced the ati stock with the original stock and bought a new straight bolt again.

Then I cut the scope mount in half, and put a red dot on. much better then a 50mm. I was grouping them better with the dot too!

I then decided to go for the pseudo scout thing, and put the ati back on. Which was nice, but the top still had minor rust pits and was aestheticly challenged. So I used a paint called aluma-hyde which is solvent resistant. I painted the barrel/receiver a parkerized gray. I thought it turned out ok.

It was still lacking something, so I added the sling, bullet carrier, and bipod.

The $57.00 rifle now had double the $ in accessories.

You original Mosin guys are welcome to chew my butt for this, but hey I still have a 91/30 in original condition and won't butcher it! This one was just an experiment that went far past the point of no return.

That look just so wrong in so many ways. The bayonnette thingy just hanging is the worst one.

My Mosins will never be "Bubbified:.

I dunno, just something about that set up that looks good to me. I Guess it is because I just like a carbine anyway and that one just looks good. I know, I know. Modifying a military rifle is a sin but I like what you did. I can just imagine shooting that set up and watching the fireball come out the end!

I love peep sights. I think that is what I am going to put on one of my m44s.

The mojos are a great sight! I have one on a swedish mauser, and one on a Mosin. They really helped me tighten my groups. I've always done better with a peep.

It looks nice to me, but that big BLOB looking glass needs to go.
What really caught my eye was the paint job on the action and barrel.
Where would you find Aluma-Hyde ?...A.H

I've been approached to make a dragunov stock for a Mosin. Will see if that ever becomes a reality.

Someone call the sheriff, a Mosins been murdered.

Not bad looking though, but the stock with the bipod doesn't look that great to me.

Just remember, the rifle will shoot off target with out any bayonet.

Thanks for the reply posts guys. Arkansashunter I got the Aluma-hyde from brownells. You can find it online at brownells.com the stuff I got was the aluma-hyde II. This was actually kind of a test to see how the product works. They say that you need to set it in the sun and spray it on in 70-90 degree weather. I didn't do that... I used the wife's hairdryer to warm it up before and after a 40 degree spray. It took pretty well but I think it would have been better it I waited till summer.
ALUMA-HYDE® II at Brownells
I have a CETME that I plan on putting a g3 stock on it to save the wood. In order to do that I am cutting the butt plate area a bit to make it more compatible, and need to cover the exposed metal edges with something like aluma-hyde. So this was the guinea pig.
Swede I have a mojo on another mosin (91/30) that I hunt with. Works very well. The bore on my m44 isn't the greatest... I was going to try a long eye relief scout mount on this one. I been kicking around the idea for awhile. I just put the red dot on because I had it laying around and decided to chop the ATI scope mount in half. Easy and cheap mod, but yes I agree UGLY but funny!!
I think it would be even funnier to have the red dot on a scout mount where the rear sight is and a night vision on the ati mount that I chopped. That would be ridiculously funny.
As far as the bayonet lug. I might shave it off. Don't need it. might make it look a bit better.
Original Mosin guys I apoligize for the m44 blasphemy, gore, mutilation, and butchery... But I'm probably not done yet my hands are still bloody and like I said. Point of no return LOL. I tried to post a pic of my 91-30 mosin. Don't worry I won't go homicidal on it. Hope that makes you feel better.
sincerely
The Kalashnikov...

I think it looks GREAT! Good job and awesome tastes! Only thing I think I would do is remove the bayonet lug properly.

Adjusting the sights will fix that.

Had a red dot on my M44 for a while then it got to where it wouldnt hold a zero so I bit the bullet and bought a leupold pistol scope for it. works alot better and looks better too.
