The stuff in the picture is the 1980's Russian ammo, NOT the 1940's Russian ammo also advertised on AIM. I'm getting that stuff next. I have a 1946 M44, and the older Russian ammo is from 1945-1950, so that makes it the same year as my rifle.
I had a can that was the exact same design, shape, and size from my Bulgarian heavy ball. I held on to the can opener from that order and now I have two! The other opener is green, the same color as the can.
Does anyone know why half of the casing is darker than the rest?

The shoulders of the casings are annealed...hence the different color...

Here are three different styles from AIM, Marion. First two are russian 1947, 1980s respectively and the last is hungarian.

Not strange at all, Marion! I keep thinking about the poor saps that were in combat and trying to open those **** spam cans! Especially the older ones that were lead soldiered shut. That metal on those is pretty stiff. The newer ones seem to be light enough that if the need arises one could open them with a bayonet. Well, older ones too if your life depended on it but it would be harder to do.

i bet they always had boatloads of those open.
does anyone know how many rnds. were issued to each soldier?

nevermind i just found it.

Six stripper clips each holding 5 x 7.62x54 rounds. soldiers with one of these mosin nagant rifles usually
were issued 1 set of 2 pouches, each holding 3 stripper clips per pouch. It was planned that soldiers
received 2 sets, but in reality most just got the single set of pouches. Furthermore normal streloks (=basic
riflemen) usually carried a pan magazine for the squad's dp28 light machinegun with 47 x 7.62x54
rounds. Snipers would either have 12 stripper clips in 2 sets of pouches or sometimes got 1 set of pouches
(=6 stripper clips) with an additional sidearm

Yes, but did they get a rifle? Movie Enemy at the gates, our hero had to go into battle and pick one up!

Opening span cans of 762R

I bought one at a gun show today from Albania. No tool. I couldn't find my **** chisel, so I went to work with a screw driver. Just open half of it, or even a quarter and or a third. Then you can fanagle some ammo out of it and make space for the other to slide down so you don't have to open it all the way. Unless you want a challenge or something Anyways, gotta go do some shooting tomorrow with my new Mauser. Later guys.

Dremel's is good for everything if you have the right grinding disk. My tapco stock on my SKS is not made for with bayonet, but I got it rigged using my dremel tool.

Agreed! But I wouldn't use it to open ammo in steel cans!
