You guys are great. I go away for a few months, come back to find that you've kept the old thread going. Amazing video, too. If I wasn't married, I'd be glad to teach her how to cycle that action.

I love the smell of cordite in the morning. After I get these cans open that is.

I used a hammer, my K-Bar and pliers. Was not fun.

880 rounds of bulgarian lightball showed up at my door today. I'm going to make a little video series on me screaming, kicking, and cussing trying to get one of the cans open. Should be fun.

I used a soldering iron to melt away some of the solder in the ridiculously thick parts (which was all of it, honestly :P), as broad a flathead screwdriver as you can get, and a hammer. If you can get a second pair of hands, heat the solder and chisel with the screwdriver/hammer combo at the same time.

I just get a little leery putting heat sources by live ammo for some reason.

I thought about that... I decided that after three hours of tugging, heat was necessary. The solder is on the outside edge anyway, and any drippings hit the steel case, not paper or ammo. Slow and steady, nothing sloppy, and its fine. I wasn't exactly melting away the solder, but I just heated it and then the screwdriver went through nicely.

Doesnt anyone here get the can opener with their bulk purchase? I have opened around 10 cans so far without any problems. And it takes but 5 minutes to do that..
Worst case, why not grab a knive/chisel and a hamer and go to town with it.

I wasn't talking about the spam cans, I was talking about the Czech surplus that comes in the green crates and and then packaged in the big metal tins, with pull-tabs that require a forklift to open.

Yeah, some of the cans don't use the opener. And it took me longer than 5 minutes to chisel open a can of Bulgie I got once. Of course all the tabs broke off, and that danged solder was thick.

Oh man, if you are talking about those huge Czech cases.... I had a freaking prybar pushed though the ring and then used the prybar as a way of pulling that tab, while I stood on that can.... I still got (2) more of those 800 rd tins, which I will not open unless I absolutly have to...they are a pain in the ass.

I put in a relatively thin screwdriver, bent it in half and it snapped... So did three others...
