It is bleached and sanded, then 2 coats Cabot Colonial Maple (for golden undertones) under 2 coats Cabot Red Mahogany with a spray Lacquer finish (Won't dent as easy my Tung oil finishes, but much harder to keep from speckling or dripping).
It was a bit of a challenge as the final coat was not wiped off so as to maintain the deep reds and not wind up orange-ish.

New to the forums here and first time Mosin Nagant owner. Picked up a 1935 Tula hex receiver. Mostly matched parts but has an Izzy part or 2 mixed in for good measure. From my experience it seems to be in great condition, both stock and barrel. Now I just need to find some time to shoot it.

Greetings fellow MN owners. For my son's graduation I bought him a 1939 91/30 at a local pawn shop. It was a CAI that was still packeed in cosmoline. He and I fell in love with it immediately. So, I bought a 1944 M44 from my boss. It has a ATI stock and el cheapo LER scope mount that broke off after 3 rounds. I put the irons back on it. I'm going to keep the ATI stock on until I'm done refinishing the original wood stock. I have some plans for these 2 rifles, nothing bubba tho.

Here's my 1936 Tula 91-30. Decent shape with a few battle scars. The shellac was chipping off pretty bad, so I stripped it and rubbed on boiled linseed oil. I left a lot of the scars. I thought it gave it some character.

Picked up a 37' Izzy 91/59, she is a thing of beauty and much lighter than my M44. Bore is spotless receiver, magazine, and hardware look brand new. The only thing funny is the Bolt was scrubbed and penciled, but it looks like it was never fired.

Looks like you got a good one there. The pre war ones was really better quality. A lot of the ones during WWII don't look so good.

Got my first one for my 19th birthday this year. It's a 1936r Ihevsk with matching serial numbers. Not planning on modding this one at all, I intend on buying another to possibly mod. My current idea is taking this spare stock from the Mosin my dad bought and put into an ATI stock, and painting the spare one a desert sand color.

Newb here, first post, but like what I see… Been shooting/carrying a .45, just got a Marlin 60 .22 to plink with my daughters with, now waiting for my first MN, a 91/30 I bought from a HIGHLY recommended on-line store. Price was right, they looked good, reviews are top-notch, I'll post my opinion when it gets here next week.

Gotta love Mass… Freedom and Liberty started here, now we have Socialism, Taxes and RIDICULOUS Firearm laws!!

Just bought one covered in cosmoline & dust for 60.00. I do not know much about these but it looks like an older one with no import marks. The stock is dark & dirty, and it shows some character marks. Its been in the closet for quite a while by the looks. I would say original, uncleaned condition, but for that price i bought it.
