FTF at a gun show. He is local but does not have a store front. I do have his card if anyone is interested in contacting him.

I have done it numerous times with all of my rifles and had no problems. Generally dry firing is not bad for center fire rifles. DO NOT dry fire a rim fire rifle though because you may damage the firing pin when it hits the chamber.

jsmaye- There's no such thing as a hex or octagonal Mosin. We americans call them hex's just to identify them.

MosinGirl:
If you have a suggestion as to how I might one day get my petite wife (5'5") interested in simply shooting the ancient, really lightweight .22, never mind the Mini 14 or 30, it might work.
Well, she is a music major, always tired from practice/performance with a church and chamber choir etc and 56 years old (a few older then I).
She is really smart but wimpy-matter of fact, very smart. After all she saw no big deal with getting a second, spare MN 44!
Am impressed that a young lady out there likes to shoot these micro cannons.
Mini 14/30, two MN 44s and SKS + very old .22.
Keeping a small river protected from floating fruit-but no luck with swimming poisonous cottonmouths.
