The first firearm I ever fired was my friend's M44. Seven years later, finally got this at the gunshow: Full size image
Edit:
Its a Polish M44 made in 1952. Some of the serial numbers are electro-penciled in, but the original SN is only different by 1 (AS11062 vs AS11061). Don't really know what that means.

New member, First post. been watching the forum for a while and signed up while in the midst of a re-finish. I can't thank you folks enough for such an informative place.
I swear.. She sent me to get salt for the softener.. but I came home a Mosin owner, thankfully I remembered the salt!
As purchased, the rest I'll put in the refinish thread.
Only got two. 1946 M44 and a remanufactured, no numbers matching on any piece, 91/30 in process of getting sporterized. Has Adavanced Technolgies black stock.

I've never liked military anything. But, some one posted a question about a Mosin Nagant on a forum I was reading. I had no idea what it was, I had never heard that name before. Well, I copied and pasted it to Google. I got to reading about them. I really liked what I read. Course, me being cheap, the price didn't hurt any.
All this happened back in November, 2009. Here it is March, 2010. I bought an M44 on the eighth of March. It has 1944 stamped under the receiver tang, with the triangle with arrow pointing up, above the year stamp. Every thing appears to match perfectly. But I am not sure about the bayonet. I'll address that issue in another thread.
I gave Gander Mountain $120.37 for the rifle and accessories and twenty count box of cartridges.
I'd like to have _ _ _ .

I am working on a M44 now. It's stock is in pretty good shape but I thought I would never get all of the cosmoline out of it. I bled what i could out of it using heat. Then I used 0000 steel wool to smooth everything down. 4 coats of Formby's Tung Oil Finish (using the steel wool in between coats)and all of the history is still there.
