| How much rust is OK? I found a 32 izzy hex receiver laminated stock 91/30 locally for 99. The thing that makes me hesitate is that it looks in great condition all numbers match but it has a pea sized spot of pitted rust right where the rear sight meets the receiver. The deepest pitting is on the rear sight but there are pits on the barrel as well. My question is how much rust is too much and is this rifle worth picking up?

| Mr. Fixit ![]() | Rust on the outside doesn't bother me too much if it's a rifle that already has a bit of "character". I'm much more concerned with the bore and mechanical cond.

| OK, bore looked good to me. The rest of the rifle looked in refurbed excellent condition. I will see if it is still there in the morning. If so. It will come home with me. Thanks for the feedback guys.

| Hey for a 75 year old rifle, probably has seen a lot of interesting history. Good bore. Should clean up nicely. BUY IT! |

| Kewl, that'll be a good buy and one you won't worry about using as a "truck gun" or modding out with a scope or whatever you like. Just make sure you get that rust off with some steel wool and oil so that it doesn't continue to eat away at the metal.

| I tend to use a scotch brite pad and oil. More forgiving that way. These are the pads that are used on teflon pans.

| Besides, if the rust pit still bothers you after you've removed the rust, you can always reblue or duro-coat it. Get the rifle already! |

| The rest of the story. OK, so I was at the shop when they opened the doors. I walk in and ask to see the rifle. The store manager hands me the rifle. I see a Laminated stock 91/30 hex receiver Izzy dated 1932. There is the sticker on the stock that says 99.00. I look at the manager and say for this price (pointing at the sticker) this is going home with me. She looks at the sticker scrapes it off and says "we don't mark down firearms." I tried to convince her that it was rusted and I should get at least 10% off. No dice. She gave me that GTH look. So, they can keep it. ![]()

| Yep, I kid you not. I almost B*&*H slapped her! But, what could I do? She was the store manager. I would loose any argument and she is the one who tells me when the good shipments are coming in. So, I lost this one. I keep toying with the idea of getting it even at 160. Still not a bad price for a hex laminate. Unless you guys know of where I could get one for a better price?

| Yup, and she probably knows that. It really sounds to me like she was intentionally trying to screw you... and you say she lets you know when shipments come in?... is that because she thinks you're a sucker and will buy over normal price?
