| Disturbing report on Bulgarian spam can heavy ball ammo I just got off the phone with the shop I buy a lot of my ammo from. I'd read about the Bulgarian spam cans J&G was selling for $43 each (although with shipping added in, although it costs less it's not much less than I pay for 50-packs of 7.62x54R heavy ball here for the same quantity of ammo). The owner said he bought two skids of the stuff, opened some of it for inspection and discovered the cans were rotten, not water and vapor-tight. The ammo inside was corroded. He rejected the shipment and sent it back to whoever he bought it from. (It wasn't J&G; they don't sell the 7.62x54R by the skid.) Has anyone bought any of this Bulgarian ammo from J&G? If you did, what did you find when you finally got the can open? I don't want to have to deal with corroded, suspect ammunition; so before I place an order that will cost $30 to ship I want to have an idea of what I would be getting. |

| I bought a can of bulgarian 300 from aimsurplus.com paid 40-50 what ever dollars. Can was sealed pretty tight and ammo inside looked good as new. I have not shot it yet Im going this week sometime for my first run, If I have any trouble I'll holler. But my initial inspection this ammo looks as good as it gets. All packed in individual 10ea wrappers tied up with some old string, dry as a bone and no corrotion. |

| Resident Armed Liberal ![]() | I just bought some Friday. Only opened one can of the two, and I picked it first because the solder looked split on the lid. It was fine. I posted pic's on this thread: http://www.gunandgame.com/forums/mos...j-g-sales.html (Ammo Run to J & G Sales)

| I'm pretty sure that J&G inspects their ammo when they receive it. they literally have a ton of it and don't want a 4th of July show in their ammo storage area. They have been in this business for quite a while and I'm sure they plan to stay that way. If you are concerned call and ask. |

| I bought two cans of Bulgarian 7.62x54R from Sportsman's Guide and the ammo looks brand new. Those stinking cans were a pain in the arse to open though (the pull tabs snapped off). |

| Resident Armed Liberal ![]() | I think standard operating procedure is to snap the pull tabs off, grab the stub with a pair of needle-nosed pliers, and use them like the key on a sardine can; just start cranking around the can. Worked for me, anyway...except that my pull tab stayed put, so I grabbed it instead of the stub with the pliers.

I remember the copperwashed Chinese Ammo THAT was good stuff 186 grain boat tail 2860 fps steel core it would go through a car end through end including the engine block. the VpZ 1988 Soviet heavy Ball was good stuff as well. the silver tip light ball seems ok now a days. I havent shot the Bulgie stuff is it consistant?

| Senior Member | 1) the sealed tins i got opened fine by clamping down on ring/tab with vice-grips and rotating counter-clockwise, till it unsealed 3 sides, and popped open 2) they were dry inside, but they smelled aweful, lotsa handwashing to get smell off; also the white powder (meant to absorb any moisture i'd guess) gets annoying, i sneeze and room gets cloudy :P
