Not sure about tapping and mounting a scope rail where sight base was....because there is already a 3/8" rail beneath sight base. Just heat barrel slightly so the silver solder melts away, remove the pins/lock screw (depends on model), and tap base forward till it comes off barrel.... only problem i've seen is when you do that, it sets scope so close to barrel, that not only do you get low-profile look, but it's hard to use a 32mm scope, depends on wall thickness of rear lens housing, because mine won't mount using an NCStar scope without wet sanding a lil spot of housing, cuz it rests on receiver....but NCStar scopes already have too much meat in the housing IMO....gotta be real careful tho, too many vibrations can cause problems, so light scrubbing with 400grit is best....but not saying this is best way to go at it either....luckily the scope is aluminum, so didnt take much scrubbing, might go with slightly taller scope rings later on, the ones i used were vertical split leupold brand, vertical split keeps the scope more true to center of barrel, but is sometimes a pain to get "just right". This is my current sitcheeeation....may be different for you. PS. I only had to remove about .0005" of the scope metal, so it wouldn't touch receiver....and it was an NCStar 2-7x 32mm scope.
