hey guys, I'm looking at some "Russian 148gr. Silver Tipped Copper washed light ball" Whats up with the silver tip? whats that suppose to mean? Is it good ammo or no? I've picked up a 440 round tin of Bulgarian 147gr. light ball b/c i know the x39 i got was pretty nice by them. Just wondering about this new ammo and if I should buy a crate.

Bulgarian 1953 LB

I bought some of the above from a guy at a gun show. Head stamp was 10 and 53, copper wash steel case. I had 2 split cases in my M44 which I never had before with any milsurp b4. Glad I had my glasses on. BEWARE! Think about it...what kind of quality control was there in Bulgaria in 1953? It must have been like slave labor... Take a head stamp guide with you before you buy...you pay your money, you take your chances...

The ammo I got at the gun show I don't believe it has any markings on the bottom of it. As I didn't see any on the two I looked at. Now I can tell you the color of it.

- Casing (Gunmetal Gray)
- Bullet (Copper w/silver tip)

And 7.62x54R.net suggests that it is from Hungry. I have four packs of these.

That ammo above looks like the incindiary ammo I had a while back in 7.62x54r. It was being sold at www.ammunitiontogo.com as raufoss ammo for non .50 BMG guns. Anyway, I doubt it would penetrate much more than a regular round does. Probably even less, as the heat compound is most likely in too small a quantity to do much for penetration. It would easily blow to hell combustable fuels and such.

Will this be a problem at the range? Meaning will it burn the thick plastic sheeting they use there so you can tape up pin up your paper target?

I go to a State Game Lands range so it is FREE! I just don't want to really damage the property.
