What a nice surprise to get a rifle that is a keeper when you weren't expecting one! 1939? That still a young rifle! Just got broke in good!

Hey, Marion, do you only have Mosin stocks? Or do you have others laying around?

vz24 mauser stock. Picked one up where a guy "tried" to refinish the stock. Looks like he put it on a belt sander and took half the wood away. Bore looked good with strong rifling and the metal looked good so I picked it up for a little over 100. Thought I could find another stock.

Saw something in Shotgun News that might interest you. Sarco has VZ24 stocks for sale with the "Absolutely pristine hand selected" ones going for 49.95 and others for 34.95. I don't know a thing about the company, but here's a link: Sarco, Inc., Firearms, Firearms Parts and Accessories .

I saw their ad just before I saw your post.

Marion- Were you NOT the one that warned ME against buying parts guns because they turn into projects?

Thanks lowercase! I am incontact with them. The ones they have sound great. But would still leave me in search of a matching hand guard. They have them with hand guard and all metal as well but the condition is only fair. They didn't sound to excited about selling me one. Am trying to decide best route to go.

But ya gotta admit, it sure is fun to bring one back from the scrap heap eh?
Moose talked me into giving this M91 a chance, and I'm glad he did!

I understand what you mean Swede. At first I looked at this mauser and thought I could quickly have more money in fixing it than I did in the rifle. But the call of what could be is too great not to try.

Exactly Tex! It is definitely not a money making proposition.

So, TRUE! But, would have a nice rifle with an interesting history. So, I guess that makes it worth while. It is kind of like wanting to restore a vintage car. If all you want is to drive around in a restored vintage car then it is better and cheaper to find one someone else restored correctly and buy that.

But, what fun would that be?
