my 91/30 had severe 2x4 bolt and i noticed a deep scratch on the fired brass cases - always in the same place. could not see the scratch on the WOLF steel cases.
found a burr in the chamber mouth.
removed the burr AND the WOLF coating GLUE .
both together did the trick

Hey wunghungalo why would you being so far away, worry about what someone else in another country is doing. Aren't there people on your continent that are like communists and killing people and stuff like that.Thats by far more of a serious thing to worry about, I don't know about you but while on this forum I wouldn't want you to "swallow a camel and choke on a nat"

I just got a bore snake and was wondering how that would effect the cleaning process?
Would you run the snake through just like a normal patch? what about the different brushes, do I still need to run those through the bore on a regular basis?
Thanks and Gig 'em

PdP, a boresnake is a great aid to normal cleaning. I use one at the range along with Gunzilla, a small funnel and a bottle of Windex to clean my Mosins after shooting.
But remember what this thread is all about. For the first time cleaning of a rifle coated in cosmoline, with a bore that may or may not have been cleaned before the gun was dipped in cosmoline, it's not the right tool. The object of the exercise is to get the cosmoline out. You'll accomplish that better with mineral spirits, boiling water, and bronze bore brushes followed by patches you can throw away, than with a boresnake that will be hopelessly gunked up with cosmoline after a single pass through the bore.

I've seen rifle barrels so clogged with cosmoline that you couldn't even drop the leader down the barrel to get it started.

New owner of a 1931 Tula Mosin. Cleaned it yesterday using the mineral spirits method then took it out to the range. Thanks for the cosmoline removal tips. It's a great shooting gun! I posted a picture in the Role Call thread. Once again, thank you!

lmao | In Europe there is a higher density of people than in the US. So there is a big environmental concern.
Just wait until you have dumped all your oil into the sewer and your drinking water is contaminated. It just takes longer in the US.
You just don't care about the environment. Until you can't hunt anymore. Then you'll blame everyone else. Just wait until it's too late. If you have luck your grandkids will have to deal with it.
I love standard measure and majestic flights, but I want to be able to eat the fish from the rivers and hunt animals that are not contaminated.
Are you saying that the American freedom is the freedom to destroy your (and everyone elses) environment?

well i use gasoline on the metal and the wood, works for me and been doing it for 40 years, as long as precautions are used anyone should be fine. after scrubbng with the gasoline, i spray the metal with brake/carb cleaner to further remove any residues left. oil up everyhing and reassemble.
i would also reccomend using heavy rubber gloves to protect the hands and saftey glasses regardless of what you use. solvents are an irratant to skin and nasal passages, and burns like hell if you got even a tiny cut. the glasses for any splashes, a tiny drop of solvent in the "ocular double o" is painful and might require a trip to the eye doc.
and why mess with pans and plugs??? i used rain gutter 4 ft long capped on both ends sealed, the widest flat bottom you can get works best. had mine made by a gutter hanger. he was reguttering a neighbors house and i asked if he could make me a soak tank with the scrap he did and i slipped him a $20.

Running water, sewer systems, dishwashers!
We use the DEPEND method.
And it works well.
I dump whatever I want, when the bucket gets too full!
It goes in the big 5 ' X 16' culvert/hole out back.
Which has a cute little log building, over it.
When it needs it.
I dump lime in it.
Every few years, or so.
I pull the building off the hole.
Dump 5 gallons of fuel down it, let it soak in.
Light a newspaper, and drop it in.
When the fire burns clean.
Drag the outhouse back, over it's spot.
If it is your lucky day.
It might even have T.P. in it.
Here is the best part.
If you come visit, either you wear Depends.
Or you, "depend" on the outhouse.
It puts EVERYONE on the same playing field.
No B.S.
No grease in sewer lines.
No Government inspectors.
No Eco freaks, or fines.
Problem solved!

| Stock Preservation
I have read that using a hand held steam-cleaner will do a decent job of removing cosmo from most nooks and crannies, and that it will leach a good amount from stocks as well.
Is there any foreseeable problem with using a steamer on a rifle stock? I assume it is similar to the dishwashing method- but will it damage the finish?
Are there any sure-fire ways to remove cosmo from a stock without doing any damage to the finish?
So far I have read the following non-damaging methods:
1. Leave it out in the sun and let it bleed out

The first time I dealt woth cosmoline I was told to take everything apart and soak it in diesel fuel. This method works really well if A.) it is a warm day and B.) you do not mind the stock smelling like (and at least for a while bleading) a semi truck.
Recently I was introduced to Sea Foam (Deep Creep if you get the spray). You hose it on, watch tv for a while, wipe it off and repeat. This stuff is also great for cleaning a barrel after you have used corrosive ammo.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- SOMEONE NEEDS TO PULL HIS HEAD, OUT OF MY OUTHOUSE!
Just WHAT this group needs.
Another long TREE HUGGER, telling me.
How to live my life!!!
OK, wise guy.
Maybe, you can EXPLAIN.
Just HOW, this I am CONTAMINATING, YOUR ground water???
Or, anyone else 's ground water?
I live in the big state of Alaska.
Far away from, the tiny state of Texas!
If you "think" I am gonna store turds.
And then haul them to a "recyclers", at least 300 miles away!
You are out of your mind!
BTW, Mr. Turd expert.
Just how do you store, them at 40-50 below??
I got a great idea!
You can keep recycling, your own TURDS.
And let them, continue make more drinking water with it.
And I WILL continue, to use my out house.
My tried & method.
Has been effectively used, for thousands of years!
(and the planet is still here)
And, your city boy method.
Has been around for??
Just for your info.
Better not, ever go out a a commercial fishing boat, or sail boat.
Guess what, you will find?
Yep, incinerating toilets!
Go figure!

it aint your turds, its the disposal of volatile chemicals in it. thats the part that contaminates the ground water. turds are fine in a hole, i got no prob with that.
