What's the going rate for a Finnish M39?

The gun shop has a cleaned M39 VKT for $250. Because of the way they have it secured, I can't tell if the numbers match or not (They've been going to gun shows lately). I can't check the bore out but if it were for the birds he'd have said so. Is this a reasonable price for an M39?

Very reasonable in my area they go for around 300.. Going to go look at two rifles tommorow a norinco like new, and a M48
165 for the norinco, and 50 for the m48 but it may be gone already and I was bugeted for 50 dollar gun

the pricing sounds reasonable.
It sounds fishy the won't un-securing it so you can look at it. If you are serious about buying it they should have no issues letting you break it down. It is near impossible to sell a gun without letting the buyer inspect it.

Thats about what I paid from SOG + shipping. The VKT is typically the least expensive at $260 with the B-barrel at $350, but requires an 03-FFL, or shipped to an 01-FFL holder (usually about $25 fee).

I agree, I would be real suspicious if the seller would not let you handle and inspect it. Note: Serial number for the bolt should be on the handle knob.

$250 is an good price if it's in good shape.

Like I said before, maybe I should get the B barrel from SOG, before they're gone.

I hope 111 remembered to ship the Tula M44 today... as that's the reason I can't afford another Finn.

Seems kinda weird, though, that they won't let you check it out...

Geo I would not hesitate in getting that B barrel. When I called them for mine they told me they only had 8 rifles left. That was in January.

Yeah, I realize that I should probably have ordered the B barrel first, but the VKT is in great shape, sans bolt, and I'm just happy to have a 39 of any kind. there aren't a whole lot of Tula M44's around for $125 either, so it all comes down to $$.

But the Tula is comming.

I bought a 1942 VKT from http://www.gunsnammo.com/ yesterday. 100% bluing, and a wartime stock that looked very dark with cool coloring like this.

Price was $289.

I had held off purchasing a M39, but a couple items did it for me.. One is that a current co-worker from Finland FOUND a M39 in his attic, in a house he and his wife purchased in Finland. It was wrapped in newspaper from 1916, and from what he found out, during the civil war in Finland at that time, the side that was loosing the war typically hid their rifles. The one he found was very well preserved, coated in grease. He has since moved to the USA and since he's not a hunter or a firearm kind of guy, but liked history. So, he had the barrel welded and made the gun inert in order to bring the gun to the US. He has it up on his wall as a symbol of Finland.. He told me about the gun, and I gasped when he said he welded the bore shut, but since he has kids and wasn't interested in shooting it, it was the only way he could bring it with him.

So, there was that, and the fact that the company that I work for is formerly Valmet.. I told the folks at work that I deserved a raise since I purchased a 1942 Valmet gun in order to help out the company's continued growth.. (Best line of crap I could come up with)

I guess there was one other reason for the purchase, too..
Tex made me do it..

If the rifle is from the Finnish Civil War, it can't be an M39. The Finnish Civil War happened in 1918, and the M39 wasn't produced until 1939. In 1918 Finland had just become independent from Russia and wasn't producing its own weapons yet. It would most likely be a Russian M91, which is what was available in Finland at the time. If it's an M39, it could have been hidden during the Winter War or the Continuation War with the Russians. If the area where it was found was near the Russian border, that's a possibility. Still, M39 or not, it's a great piece of history.

BTW, congrats on your M39. I have bought two of them from the same dealer as you did: a '43 Sako and a '70 no-name "Sneak."

After shooting the (VKT) M39 it's hard to believe it took so long for me to ante up. A beautiful rifle that is a tack driver. Wish I could afford a B barrel, but the 91/30 and the Tula M44 about did in the MN budget for a while.

But happy to have completed a good base collection of MN's.

Thanks for the info, and he wasn't sure what the model of the rifle was. I'm having him send me photos of the rifle, and I'll post them here..

I had the same problem as you, and ordered a 1967 no-name, also.. Should be here any day..

When I get the photos, please pass on any info that you might have about it. I know he'd be as interested in the info as the rest of us gun nuts.

last buy - m39

my last buy was a 1944 Sako M39 in like new condition. Some numbers forced, bore like a mirror, not a ding on the stock, 100% blue - $250 OTD. They are getting harder to find in the Dallas area.
