So what do yall think about the scope mount kit that comes with the mount you drill and tap the reciver and cut off the bolt handle and drill and tap the bolt body for the new turn down handle.I do that type of work all the time just not on mosins. So the install shouldn't be a problem. I just didn't know if it was worth it.

That scope mount puts the scope over the receiver, so you will need to load ammo one at a time. I'm pretty sure that stripper clips won't clear. Better to keep the original bolt and order a bent bolt for Boltman or others.

Again the LER scope and rear sight mount are elegant and functional. done correctly they are very stable as well.

That said, M44's are plentiful and cheap, so a little home smithing might be fun.

the strippers wont work with with the mount I talking about.thats true.I was concerned about the bolt as to how it would hold up over time

Accurately... I would guess about 400 yards. We were hitting the 300 yard dinger with an M44 (bayo extended) on Sunday and generally the 91/30 is a better distance shooter. I haven't tried my 1937 yet. Still in the cleaning stage. The M39 is is a tack driver, but costs about 3.5 times the 91/30.

Actually Geo, I believe it was LarryO that said he hit a 3 foot stump that he used a range finder on at 440yards with his first shot.

I'm willing to go out on a limb here and say models with good rifling are accurate to 500-600 yards, if the shooter does their part.

Yeah, I just didn't want to exagerate. I'm sure that the 91/30 can easily reach that distance with relatively good accuracy. For the average shooter 400 yards is probably do-able, consistantly. With a really good MN, like the Finnish versions, hunting shots of nearly 500 yards (with iron sights) have been reported.

The fact that the 91/30 was used as a sniper rifle (as were the Finnish models using iron sights) is testiment to their accuracy.
