First Mosin Nagant

Gonna try this again, posted in wrong place first time. Swapped in a pistol scope, rings and mount, which I hade no use for anymore. Picked up a Mosin Nagant 7.62X54. I know nothing about them but the name. Marks on the rifle say's it a Izhevsk (Soviet Union), behind rear sights it says 1937. It's 48 1/2" long. Was looking for a Russian SKS, they didn't have any. Seen the Mosin Nagant, so picked it up. Stock a little rough, no major dents or scratches, just finish wear. I gave $20.00 difference, did I do OK, or did I get took? One more thing, where is the safety on them? I said I know nothing about them.

depends on the brand of pistol scope.

What you describe sounds like a 91/30. Great rifles. Of the Russian rifles (not finns) I like them the best. These rifles sell in the range of 60 to 100 bucks from distributors and a little higher in gun shops.

The safety is engaged by pulling back on the cocking piece and rotating counterclockwise 1/4 of a turn.

Be very careful with that thing. The cosmolene is addictive and Mosins tend to reproduce in your gun safe quickly.

Welcome to the Mosinitis club!!!

Thanks texnmidwest, got the safety thing figured out. Picked up some shells yesterday for it, can't wait for a good day. Seen another mosin where I picked up the shells. M44 (?), afraid the wife might use the other 44 if I came home with another one that quick. You said they will reproduce in gun safe, looks like you might be right on that.
