| First time shooting my M91/30 Finnaly got to shoot my mosin nagant m91/30 yesterday for the first time, really surprised at how much it kicks, kick's way harder than I thought it would. Shot my friends rem 700 .300 win mag for the first time right before the mosin and found out that the .300 win mag didn't kick as much as the mosin(or at least it didn't seem that bad,'course the rem had a recoil pad on it). I wasn't very accurate with the mosin yesterday, but my friend managed to get a 1 inch group at around 70-80 yards with it(might even have been 100 yards, not really sure of the distance). | Senior Member | When I shoot my two Mosin's, I bring a dish towel that I fold and put over my shoulder. First time my buddy came out with me, he said he didn't need it. After the second shot he was using it. Kicks like a mule and barks like a... well, something loud and throaty.

| Buy yourself a Limbsaver slip on recoil pad. Will work wonders. |

I put one on my 91/30 and not only did it pretty much kill the recoil, it made the length of pull perfect for me, as the original was just a little short.

| What, yer sayin' yer not as tough as a scrawny Russian grunt? They didn't know what butt pads were! j/k, of course. They do kick pretty good, but I don't find it intolerable. I think milsurp 30-06 in my Rem. 700 is harsher.

| think an M91/30 is bad......hehehehe......we have yet to indoctrinate this one........the M91/30 is nothing compared to an M44. Shot one of my buddies 44's and i darn near had my shulder busted off.

| spiritual counselor ![]() ![]() | i bought a limbsaver and swap it out on my milsurps. they REALLY help shooting from a bench. those mosins will beat the s#!t out of you sitting down. i bet you could have caused a riot by tossing a limbsaver into a mob of russian soldiers!

| No worries gents, the Limbsaver stays on "Bethany", my m91/30 ex-sniper. When I shoot "Svetlana" and "Ivanova", my 1943 and 1938 m91/59's (respectively), I shoot them bare-backed... As John Cougar Mellencamp said: "...make it hurt so good!" ![]()

| I have been pretty tough as far as shooting all of my rifles pad-free... However, after friday at the range my shoulder hated my hobby. Might have to quit being a man and pick one up. M44 and 91/30 kick pretty considerably, but so do my K98 and K31. Well, and the Steyr... but thats a whole other level of hurt |

| Consider the thickness of the coats and whatever other clothes kept russian soldiers warm. Even my dad wore a heavy jacket when firing his M1 up in the Aleutians. And when he didn't he was fighting for his life so pain was not really a factor. Just a thought.

| Bullet Maintenance !! ![]() | Benchwork can be brutal. Especially zeroing a scoped 300 Wby Mag or the like. If you are working on 2-3 rifles, you'll appreciate a PAST, believe me!
