Need help with barrel band springs.91/30,m44
I having a hard time getting the band springs to go toward the front sight.I can push the flat spring in' but the bands won't buldge forward,and I dont want to force anything.I don't want to scratch up my hand guard or break the springs.I just want to make sure there's no pitting under the barrel

that is what I use .. take out the cleaning rod , turn rifle upside down , grease the barrel bands a little and gently tap the bands I usually force a small screw diver in between the opening in the barrel band just to open it a tiny bit it slides easier and is easy to do with the cleaning rod removed

patrick, I've had good results doing what Steve says. But I put a little light lubricating grease on the wood in front of the barrel bands to help things along during assembly and disaasembly, then wipe it off later. Channel-locks work really well for depressing the barrel band springs. If you go the dowel and channel-locks route, you shouldn't mar the wood at all.
Oh yeah: welcome to the forum! |

one thing ive learned with Mosins;
if you bitch at it it will generally do what you want. it goes something like this; "i swear to god if this screw dont turn i aint shooting you again!" sure enuff the screw flies out of its hole. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Thanks guys, I got them off ,with a little bit of patience.No pitting so I happy .But I'm gonna clean out the internal part of the stock and put a coat of wood finnishing wax .Especially where the action sits.It just needs a little tender loving care.
