What Scope Set-up do you like best?

Hey folks, I know I may be beating this into the ground, but I have been unable to get very many opinions on the different types of scopes and mounts. Yes, I read the thread that tried to combine the info and it was somewhat helpful. I have an M44 I just got...not sure I am happy with trading it for my 91/30...I may go back! Anyway, I looked up about everything I could find on mounts. I am cheap, so I wouldn't be spending any pretty pennies, hell, that's why I bought the things in the first place.

What scopes have you used? Eye relief?
What mounts have you used? ease of installation?
Do they hold up well to the boulder-buster or do they tend to move a bit?
What did you spend?

Let me know what you all think of them! Give me your opinions-likes/dislikes with your setups. I would be much appreciated.

I'm a scout scope fan, but mainly because it's cheap and, done properly, it works.

Look up scout scope on these threads and you will get an answer. I've esplained it too many times. The jist is "don't overtighten the screws in the scout scope mount." And read the instructions.

I've got an M-44 with a B-Square mount and a Tasco (Japan) Trophy-Class 2x20 30mm handgun scope in B-Square Utility rings. This setup has taken five deer at ranges of 175 to 225 yds. All but one were one-shot kills.

I had one of those mounts on my m91/30 once but I removed it due to weigh (The rifle weighed 10 pounds). I'm gonna put a pu mount on it soon, like my other m91/30 as I love the pu mounts.

i think darrels mounts look strongest and nicest. i don't use one yet, but when i get through paying for other priorities, i'll be getting one.

When I'm done modding-out my AES-10 (which is many months and a couple hundred dollars away), I'm going to get at least one rear-sight mount for my 91/30 ex-sniper, "Bethany", so that she can really reach out and touch someone.

Well....let's see here, this is my current setup, sorry no pics, my cam-fone wont transfer to email, only do MMS messages

1) Remove rear sight base (gunsmith removed it): $30
2) Leupold Vertical-split 1" scope, 3/8" mount scope rings: $15
3) NcStar (New Century) 2-7x zoom, 32mm objective lens, 7-layer Illuminated Reticle, etc. $54/included s/h from OpticsPlanet - Best Telescopes Microscopes Sunglasses Rifle Scopes Night Vision Binoculars Flashlights Goggles & more!

Leupold scope rings model number: 56533 (Matte Black)
NcStar scope model number: SEPB2732B (Black)

Now, for fitting:
The scope will not fit just right with those rings....the rear lens area likes to "touch" the receiver with a lil bit of force. The rings that come with scope are for weaver style rails, but they have something helpful. The inside of rings have a soft layer of "shim" to keep scope from getting scuffed by rings. If you remove the layer from the top half of one of the included rings(you wont use these cheapo rings), cut it in half shortways, so u have 2 square pieces. Now apply each piece to lower part of each half of the vertical split ring that's gonna be holding rear of scope....dont need to add any to front ring....that lil bit of shim is just enuff to raise the rear of scope about 1mm....that's just enuff so you have about enuff space between rear of scope and receiver that u can slide of piece of "ammo paper" "wax paper" w/e it is between scope and receiver without any pressure....hold the finished setup up to light and you can see it clears. This way also makes it so you can use stripper clips, and the tops of the vertical split rings make a decent "iron sights" for getting a basic lineup of a target that may be WAAAYYYYY off in the distance.

For ease of install, stability, and longevity, I'd suggest going this route instead of an adapter. The more parts you have, the more possibilities of something getting loose, screws losing their bite, holes losing their threads, etc. That's just my opinion when it comes to scouting an M91/30....This is NOT for M44's, and if you're interested in any other models, ask Steve.

And Steve is...? I have an M44, although I would like to get rid of it and get another 91/30 like I had...but if I don't end up doing that, I will scope out my M44.

Thanks for that option mike. Too bad we can't do that on a 44. I do like the NC Star LER scope and my setup on the M44 works... so far. Also thanks for the lead on Optics Planet.

yeah, i actually found opticsplanet to be cheapest, other than ebay, which is good for ppl who dont like/have paypal. and the $54 scope was the most expensive model they had....which proves it's decently priced. it also comes well packed, had no prob with shipping, took about 4days to arrive. Comes with battery already installed and a replacement one. I'll throw pics up when i get digi-cam's battery charged. I really wanna show-off the clearance work i did. OMG, still can't believe it worked

My set-up includes:
1 PE Mount
1 Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40
1 Bent Bolt
Drill and tap by gunsmith.

I expect all of this to total at least 300 dollars, the stuff I have now was easy to get off of ebay, I just had to wait to find the right bargain.
