round will not chamber

When I first got my 91/30 and went to shoot it I was able to fire 1 round and then couldn't get any more rounds to chamber. What I mean by that is I could slide the bolt all the way forward and about halfway closed and it would stop. So I cleaned it as best as i could with boiling water and hoppes and went at the chamber with some brass brushes for a while, When I went to shoot it again a few weeks later it wouldn't even chamber the first round like it had before. I'm pretty sure it is just the bolt because I can use a different bolt from my m44 in it just fine. Any ideas?

yepper its a bolt problem i suggest you take bolt apart and clean it good with brake or carb cleaner and re oil it . I would take a good look at the ejector it may be bent , you can compare it to your m44

i've got a hungarian m44 that does that some times as well. seems like every 8th round i have to smack the bolt handle down to get it chambered. i had some dummy rounds that i tried in it when i got it and i needed a mallet to close the bolt on them and one got stuck. lesson learned. i'll not try to put once fired brass from any other mosin into that chamber again. i cleaned out the chamber with a 20guage brush with some 000 steel wool on a drill and got it spotless, but it still was acting up. gotsome guages on the way to check headspace. not too worried bout it though rather have it tight then loose. i'm hoping after a few hundred more rounds it'll loosen up a bit.
DON"T BE TEMPTED TO GO SHOOT IT WITH THE M44 BOLT UNLESS YOU CHECK THE HEADSPACE WITH THAT BOLT IN THE 91/30. TOO LOOSE CAN BE VERY BAD.

wonder if they used a guage when they rearsenaled all those weapons?
i'm probably just a wuss, but i can't help thinking of the consequences that could result. makes me cringe when pulling the trigger on a new rifle.

Well what does it mean when I'm at the part during the bolt break down where you push the firing pin into the board and unscrew the knob and when I'm unscrewing it, it just keeps spinning and doesn't come off.

You have to have the Tool holding the firing pin at the flat part...Like a wrench as you spin the Knob....It is hella spring Loaded !!! also you have to set the firing pin depth properly or you will have problems, it has to be betwwen 75 and 95 on the Screwdriver tool !

I think its a requirement on the importer unless he specifys it hasnt been checked that they check head space besides I think its a liability issue I am sure they check it at the factory when its refurbished .. If you have doubts tie a string to the trigger and fire it from a distance with the rifle tied down .. As far as being a wuss I doubt anyone would ever fault you on a safety issue!

hmmm, when i built my bolt (from parts kit online), i never checked for headspace....guessing it's good tho, since there's no empty space where my head would be.

Oh yeahhh....if headspace wasnt correct and the gun blew up, it'd remove my winky....considering us hicks always climb tree-stands with gun pointed up and in front of us with muzzle next to face and chamber next to our "special friend"....so i guess i dont need a head for that mishap to ummm happen....that's why it's called a mishap, cuz i've always "missed it happening".
