Bolt head W/ Extractor

Where is a good place to find a good bolt head w/ extractor? My 91/30's bolt wont close on a round and it seems to be the extractor. There are marks on the round from the extractor hitting it and not grabbing the round. I used my bolt from the M44 and it works fine in the 91/30. Please help.

Your bolt head is probably caked with cosmoline inside the extractor area, try soaking it in mineral spirits and blow it out with compressed air if you have it, then see if the extractor can work by hand first...

Problem is if you replace the bolt head, then the headspace needs to be professionally checked and fitted...

Ok so if soaking it with mineral oil doesn't work would it be a good idea to get just the extractor? If so how do you get it out of the bolt head?

If the extractor is not broken , you shouldnt need to replace it !
You have to carefully lift the front lip and using a hard wood block or soft brass drift punch tap it towards the rear of the bolt head, it is in a dovetailed Groove and it slides out the back. The rear of the extractor should be flush with the rear of the bolt head when it is installed properly,
also, make sure that the area that the extractor rides in ,in front of the barrel chamber is CLEAN and not gunked up, so the extractor can snap freely on a shell lip...
A SIMPLE TEST is to lift the extractor with a small screwdriver CAREFULLY, it should act like a spring, but lift freely with tension and spring back down...

Ok. I know my M44's extractor you can lift with your finger and it works great. this one wont budge. I will see what happens when I'm done cleaning it. Will it help to remove the extractor to clean it?

Sure, I would soak it first...You may have to stone the FLAT sides of the extractor with a fine whetstone and some oil just a very little Bit to have clearance in the grooveso it moves freely...It may have gotten nicked or a burr if it isnt the Cosmoline holding it from moving, soak it in Mineral spirits before you attempt to remove it to loosen up the cosmoline or dip it in Very hot Tap water for a few minutes to melt the cosmoline, Be Very careful not to Hammer the front lip too hard or you may deform or break the extractor !!!
Use a hardwood dowel and a small Hammer !

Thank you so much. I tried mineral spirits and it didn't do much so I boiled it and now it works great! For the first time since I bought the rifle I have been able to chamber a round.

Thanks!
