Cheap scout mount fix

I recently bouhgt an ati stock and generic mount and LER scope for my m44 and my first outing the elevation screws on the mount became loose and i had to go and loctite evrything up. the second time i go the elevation screws didnt move, but the scews holding the mount got loose, and i later found that those screws were stripped... ahhh. so an idea occured to me sitting home.

i took the pin that originally held the iron sight on and tried to see if it would fit in the hole that was on the mount, and it didnt quite fit. i figured, lets try something, and seeing how the pin fit in the original iron sight, it is loose and the tension holding it in is at the ends of the mount on the gun. so i took the scope mount and the pin, and basically hammered the pin through the mount hole, took out some metal in the process, but the result was worth it.

the mount now sits perfectly in the rear sight base, and is held in securly by the pin. tightening the elevation srews showed the end product to be a straight, secure, and still non-permanant scope mount, that will hopefully hold together threw the recoil, which i think and it will.

If it don't fit, get a bigger hammer.

Inexpensive mounts wobble, even with the screw threaded nicely through.

Coincidentally, just looked at that solution today, after a friend came over to "by-gawd, mount that scope."

He left before any permanent damage was incurred.

I'm thinking on it.

I did the same thing to my scout mount, only I had to drill my mount a little to get the pin to fit worked like a charm!!!

just came back from the range, and i am very satisfied. the mount held in place, no movement at all,a dn all screws also kept in place. this is a very easy way to make those cheap mounts usable. once zeroed in i was shooting the bullseye the whole time. it feels god when ur gun actually shoots like you want it to. i was so happy i bought a nice mini-14 with a burska scope, heat sheild and barrel shroud. picked it up cheap, only 500

Only a gunny could understand the logic behind FINALLY making a rifle and scope combination work perfectly, and THEN go buy another rifle.

Congratulations.
