I use a target that has 1 inch grids and I place a White Pasty in the center. I aim for the pasty and with the 1" grids, I am able to make a good sight adjustment. When I shoot, I want to learn from my shots fired.
For fun I take a .22 LR and go to the dump and shoot Rats, or little targets of opportunity such as, labels on junk, buttons on radios etc, whatever may be in the dump that shows a challenge. In another thread, I made a joke but something I did many many times for a great challenge. Take a bottle and lay it on its side and go back and shoot the bottom of it out without damaging the neck of the bottle. Increase your range until you can't do it anymore and keep trying. I have done it at 55 feet. Oh! No scopes and no benching. Give yourself HARD challenges.

Lefthandshooter,

A one inch pasty shows up fine at 100 yards. You'll see it against a Black background.

Old equipment is fun to shoot, plus you were going to throw it out anyhow.

Old laptops and old hard drives make fun targets. Wood bowling pins. The water bottles I bring to the range, after I drink them, fill them with sand and shoot them.

It's most fun to shoot a target that moves or falls when you shoot it.

I feel jealous guys. You get all those fancy targets and all I get are propane tanks and dead cattle to check ballistics.

i like Thril200's idea....Sins, ur tanks are too small....noob....go to a propane tank graveyard with some 180+gr FMJ HB's and just use krylon to paint targets....I'd do this when I know there's no-one, mainly law enforcement, anywhere closeby

Been there - done that.
Back in the mid 1980's we shot a tank off of a gas grill. The airport tower 3 miles away called the fire dept. when they saw the fireball. Bond fires usually had multiple aeresol cans - one with 120 cans and several hundred rounds of old rifle/shotgun ammo.
Also was around when my older brother's friends filled a 6 foot weather ballon with acetylene oxygen mix and put a 15 minute cannon fuse on it. Blew a hole 1' deep by 6' across and broke windows a mile away. Since it was close to the gas company's underground storage there was about 30 company vehicles along with 2 counties sheriff's vehicles, 2 cities, and some state highway patrol cars. They never found the spot nor cause due to a well camo'ed blast site.
(I knew how to make Napalm when I was 8. Used it to burn green brush piles.)

yay....but have you ever filled a 55gallon drum in black powder, homemade napalm, diesel fuel, and 90%rubbing alky(for the pretty colors)....and set that son off....it was money well spent....didnt have any fuses or anything, so we made a fuse using a loooong trail of diesel fuel, and recorded it....my buddy burned the tape soon after tho, especially since the back of the K-mart got blown off using a similar method >.>

just wanted to share this with you guys...walmart has these targets that are made up of eco friendly non toxic chalk that are bright orange so you can see them easy. its nice and cheap and the box claims that the chalk has exploding action once it gets hit. its called Visichalk and this set up with 12 round chalk targets set me back a whopping $6.98! they have boxes of refils of chalk for even cheaper. only thing is that they are kinda small...i put a spent round next to the target as a comparison. i plan on getting my second m91/30, turning it into a sniper, and having fun with these.
