| I got my second 91/30 at an auction a few weeks ago. Since I was working, I had my wife bid on it for me. Got home and the bore looked really dirty. It finally cleaned up and it has some pretty good rifling. Took it to the range and hit the gong (about 8 inch gong) at 200 yds with my first shot (iron sights even). It just kept hitting the gong. Great rifle. My plan was to make this a sporter with scope and bent bolt, but now I can't talk myself into doing that to the gun. I even bought a synthetic stock for it. Now, I have to go buy another Mosin to sporterize since I don't want to mess with this gun. Also bought a M44 and M38, but haven't shot them yet. I think I've got the Mosin bug. How do you get rid of it? Is it curable? Would it be better to sporterize a M44 or 91/30 (if I can ever find it in me to do it)? I've seen a web site for BOLTMAN that says he can bend a bolt (one of his) for $55. Can I take his bolt body and use it on my rifle without affecting the headspace?

| Congrats on your new Mosin! As for the Mosin bug...You got it, you gotta live with it. No cure, all you can do is just keep buying Mosins! lol The bolt body shouldn't mess with the head space, atleast I don't believe that it would, that is usually more dependent apon the bolt head. Moose Man would be the best guy I can think of to ask. lol As for sporterising a rifle, I'd say a M44 or the M38 cause the carbine would be alot handier in any bit of a close quarters area. Good luck, and just enjoy the Mosin bug, don't even worry about trying to shake it either, it's useless.... |

| id sporterize the 91/30. its longer and most likely more accurate. also, more of a real "sniper rifle". (as in sporterize you do meen synthetic stock, bent bolt, scope) all that good stuff right? |

| Bullet Maintenance !! ![]() | The bent bolt does not change headspace at all. If I had to sporterrize a Mosin, I'd probably do a M44.

| Me too. Camo Natalia is a pleasure to shoot. Too bad that you will have to cut the barrel bands off (shoot it first to see if you like the new stock before cutting the barrel bands), but you probably won't want to change it back anyway, and it will still be worth the $140 you spent (not counting the scope).

| Is there any truth to the rumor that the bayonet makes a difference on accuracy of the M44? Taking the bayonet off shouldn't hurt, I assume it means if it is folder or not. Heard something at the range about that, but didn't ask too many questions.

| With the bayo folded or removed the rifle will have a tendancy to shoot about 8" high and to the left at 100 yards. Of course if you put a scope on it you won't care. Otherwise do what the Russians did, and aim 8" low to compensate for the offset. I've never understood the reasoning as with the boyo extended you probably wouldn't care about long range accuracy, so why not set the sights for the bayo folded?
