I shot the M-44 today

Yes I did. Luckly this weekend there was a gun show in town and I got some ammo for the Mosin.. Now be advised the only rifle I've shot lately is the M1 Carbine and my Ruger 10-22. It's been at least 25 years since I've done anything bigger.

Good Gosh.................Jeeze................Dam

I was only able to fire 5 rounds before my shoulder was a achin............Yep I'm a wus, but I still wanted to shoot the M1 some more.

I was able to hit my target or let me say the board that the target was on 50 yds away 4 out of the 5 times (which actually surprised me after the first shot!)

Don't get me wrong, I really like that gun. I'm just going to have to toughen up the ole shoulder some and to be sure, where the birds that hang around the pit are pretty use to gunfre.......that one stired them up for sure.

I'll give her and the 91/30 a try next weekend........I LIKE IT!!!

Congrats on just getting out to the range. Been a few as of lately, myself included, that hasn't been able to. I and I believe a few others finally also did. Life seems to get hectic and many other things just seem to make it tough to do sometimes.

And not sure if I did or not, so I'll do it now just in case I didn't.

Just wanted to make sure I said hello and welcome to the site. Where there's plenty to read and even more to learn and a ton of great helpful people...

Yeah, we are all a bit masochistic. Glad you got out with a Russian battle rifle. It is different.

As for the wus part, many of us use Past Magnum recoil pads. Makes for a more enjoyable experience.

WestTex: You just didn't realize rotator cuff damage was a prerequisite to owning a Mosin "snubby." I'm glad Mitchell Arms wasn't able to buy part of the Mosin business like they did with their "Mitchell Mausers." We'd be shooting Model 44B's in the "Tanker" version with 12-inch barrels!

They make you feel alive (...and continue to do so for a couple of days.)

Actually Steve had a great idea. He suggested that we should post pictures of our brused shoulders on this forum. I thinks it's a funny idea and will do so next time I had some "extended" range time and something to show for. <outch>

Thanks for the advise. I've had mossinitis for a while now with two 91/30s (1938 & 1943)and the M44(1948). We had a gun show in town this weekend with some really nice examples, but lack of funds and the need for some bullets......Ya'll know the story. I'm just getting out of the Dog house for the M-1 Carbine, so I'll slack up for a while.
As for the recoil pad Geo, that's a definite purchase.......along with more ammo!
Thanks

Now, if you're "significant other" not very gun savy just tell her:"No, that's the same one. I had that one for a long time already. Remeber I bought it in [insert year here]", etc.

Well, I am not suggesting that you line'em all up on the living room floor while she's trying to vacuum.

You already have two 91/30 and if you get them out one at a time, who will notice if all of the sudden you own a third one. I was thinking along those lines.....

The more you own, the easier it is to "just add" another one. That is until you reach "critical mass" and you have to explain why the door of your gun cabinet won't close anymore, etc.

Personally I can recommend this model. Until I can get out I pretend to be on vacation.

I took care of that problem; I just overwhelmed mine.

As others have pointed out, there's no reason to let her see every one of them at once. I just ran them in and out and around and past her until she got dizzy; she has no freaking idea how many guns I own now. Mind you, I'm not claiming she approves, but she has trouble getting specific with her protests.

Of course, it helps that I work out of town, and run guns back and forth between the steel cabinet in my motor home and the safe at home, and between my nephew's safe and mine. Hell, sometimes I have trouble keeping track of what guns I own.
