Green can also come out of the barrel if there is a lot of copper in the barrel, and your bore cleaner has ammonia in it. I have an Outers Foul Out III for copper deposits.

remember the M44 was sighted in with the bayonet extended from the factory, if you're gonna shoot it with bayo retracted or removed, you'll need to resight it to zero.

also, if you're gonna get an M44, then you'll need to get an M91/30....cuz if you're gonna be shooting close-range targets, then you'll eventually feel the need to shoot farther off targets....which is where the 91/30 steps in
