| maybe gettin one this weekend so my original and still current goal is to own an M1 Garand, but a buddy of mine has a 1955 Romanian M44 that he doesnt want anymore, its in really good condition and i think around a hundred will hold me over on my itch for an old military rifle, for the rest of the week anyway. glad to see there is such a dedicated following for this firearm, it makes me feel better about the purchase.

| Let's hope that it wasn't MilSurp ammo... if it was that would explain a lot. When you said you didn't like the way it shot... did you mean accuracy or fun factor?

| I squeezed off fifty rounds yesterday. My shoulder must be getting used to it. Not even a hint of a bruise today. |

| actually just shot into a bank so dont really know about accuracy, so fun factor, i dunno, never really been a fan of bolt actions, but eh, although, it was fun watchin one of my buddys wince the first time he felt the kick. but dont read into the comment too much, i still really like the rifle, and i would imagine it was milsurp ammo fired the 6 yrs ago, cuz the guy im buying it from is notoriously cheap, but hell, its clean now, disassembled, and no corrosion, rust, or excessive wear in the barrel or outside it either.

| Shooting at the dirt pile is fun. I don't think a rifle would last 6 days here in Western Washinton with mil surplus shot without cleaned. I love the stuff but I also love to clean guns. |

| update am purchasing the rifle this weekend for sure, took it out again and went through about 60 rounds, set up targets(big gulp cups, old beer cans, etc) at about 75 yards and it was pretty accurate freehand and on the rest. few questions though, is the bolt always hard to operate when ejecting shells? its easy to cycle when empty, but not with shells, and also, why would patches come out green when cleaning it? the milsurp reacting with the cleaning solvent maybe?

| Hmmm, a lot of milsurp uses green lacquered cases. This has a tendency to kind of melt off in the chamber, especially if there was some old cosmoline still there. This also contributes to "sticky bolt" syndrome. My advice is to take a 410 wire brush, put it on a section of old shotgun cleaning rod, chuck it into your electric drill, and use it to give the chamber a hard cleaning using some Hoppes. Then use a 410 mop to get out all the old stuff. |
