Scope Mount Question

I have a M91/30 that I got from SAMCO which is drilled and tapped for a scope mount. I want to mount a PE copy or similar scope on to it. It looks to me when I go to the Accumount web site that the PU mount is made to fit the hole position and pattern of the rife that I have and if you were going to mount a PE scope on an M91/30 you would use a mount that sets in front of the bolt on top of the receiver??? At least that is what it looks like to me from the pictures on that website. I sent email to John at Accumount and all he told me to do was to measure the hole spacing to see if one of the three versions that he has fits my hole pattern. Yet when I look at the PE mount it mounts in a different place I think.

I do not want to drill any more holes into this rifle. Can I use the PU mount to hold a PE style scope? Hope I am making some sense here.

Thanks, Aviator

if you have an pu ex-sniper, use a pu mount. if you want a pe sniper, either get a pe ex-sniper or a run of the mill 91/30 and scope it.
either mount can be purchased with 1" mounts, so if you want a more modern scope you have a choice.

Not a great cleaning method IMHO. DPD is much more thorough without abrasion.

Scope mounting part was ok.

since ur seeing my name on this post....then u can pretty much tell what i'm gonna tell you....errr ask you*....if u like EER/LER scopes, then look into grabbing a cheap 91/30 and doing a scout-scope project....i think my posts were archived, gotta lookup the links, but i got step-by-step on how to do it including part numbers; i know i'm getting off subject, but another possibility(dont really know, just check scope diameters) would be to get an adjustable scope and mount it in a pu mount....if it'll fit and the eyepiece doesnt get in the way of the bolt/stripper clips, then i say go for it, and ignore what these hardcore 'originalists' say.....now watch me get into trouble for suggesting something that may not work....remove rear sight base on a standard m91/30 and mount some 3/8th" scope rings, verti-split i prefer, because they let scope sit lower to receiver....also, when base is removed, it leaves a thick coating of silver on barrel....dunno how well that'll re-blue, but i left it like it was, the solder keeps rust away...yay

hmmm, lemme find links......

Ps. steve, and marion will definitely have something to say about my 2cents

OK Mike and all thanks for the input.

I have several M91/30s but I would like to put a scope on this particular rifle since it has the cut out and the holes. So, what I am hearing here is to get the PU mount and find a scope that will fit it or buy that over priced PE scope copy and it will fit in the PU mount??

Mike, I will check out the archives and study some more.

Thanks guys,

Aviator

He are some answers

A PE mount holes will not work with a PU hole setup. If it is drilled and tapped for a PU then you need a PU setup. A PE scope will not fit into a PU mount. Only a PU or SVT scope will fit into a PU mount.

Does your rifle have a matching bolt?

hey aviator, do you care if it's not a "copy" of an original pu sniper? if not, i'd take a hard look at the pu mount with 1" rings.

OK, well I do not want to make a copy of a PU sniper. I have one that I paid $$ from Classic Arms. It is real nice. Problem was I purchased some time back the sniper 91/30 minus scope from SAMCO. It of course is drilled for the PU mount. Guess I should have made better sense with my intentions. I didn't send the rifle back even though I could have (they have some return policy) cause I figured I would put another scope on it with the intention of at least making it kinda look like a PE style rife. The entire PE setup costs more than the PU or at least that is what it looks like from what I've seen on the internet.

So if I get a PU side rail mount will any scopes fit into the rings or is there any other options where I can use the existing holes? Past that I would just put the rifle in the closet and keep it for someone that would want to make a PU rifle.

I go to work every day and walk past a couple megabuck new CNC machines and wonder what could be done with one of those beasts if I only new the boss in the area well enough.....

Any more advise would sure be appreciated.

Thanks,

Aviator

i'd go with this one, myself. cheap and you have the option of replacing the scope with any 1" scope you like. i'd ask if they sell the mount and base without the scope first though.
1" Soviet Russian Mosin 91/30 PU sniper mount and scope - eBay (item 270254649290 end time Aug-09-08 2012 PDT)
p.s. i'd also measure the center to center of my mounting holes and make sure the mount is the right one as well.
