| to tell you the truth it is probably still dirty in the breech or your extractor on your bolt it not put on the right way. What ammo do you use because the laquer coating on some ammo gums up the breech and requires it to be soaked depending on how bad it is. |

| Use hoppes nitro solvent or any other bore cleaner you have, let it sit for 7-10 minutes then use a smaller bore brush and scrub the breech. |

| i had somewhat of the same problem, make sure you check out the extractor pin and make sure it is properly in there and not bent or anything. |

| Military Rifle Collector ![]() | Another idea is if you have another Mosin trade the bolt out of that one and see if it works. If it does then its probably something you did with the bolt. Check the other one and see if there is a difference. If you dont have another Mosin now is the perfect time to buy one.

| my breach and bore is spic and span. here is the deal. If i take the round and place the little lip on the back said of the round under the "tooth" on the extractor then it will chamber and fire. but if i dont put it under there it will not close. it pushes all the way up and will turn just a little bit but it will not close. |

Go to this web site and scroll down to extractor removal and then down to reassemble http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinDisassembly.htm

| In my long, and checkered, career trying to do stuff... I've learned to look at the part I've just fixed to find what the problem is that is causing the NEW problem. ![]() justathought.

| This sounds like a Moose grade problem. Moooose! Since this happened after you disassembled the bolt, and it worked ok before... my suggestion is check the firing pin excursion and also make sure that the scribe marks on the bolt tail piece line up with the slot in the firing pin screw.

| +1 for what Geo M44 said. I "fixed" a family members recently purchased 91/30 with same bolt won't close complaint - the firing pin was protruding so far I'm amazed it didn't break off OR fire the round when he kept trying to cycle it!

| the firing pin looked good, i did check it.. i bent the heck out of the extractor trying to get it out. i ordered one for it through.. im hoping that will fix the problem.. it seemed to me that it just was not locking around the lip on the round. it seemed like it was hitting the lip that why it wouldnt close unless i slid the round under the extractor with my hand before it closed.. all this does have one positive it gave me a good chance to stripe and re-blue the barrel and bolt.. i think it came out pretty good. |
