| Polish for bolt and chamber? Cannot find Simichrome.....
Ok, so I have searched locally at a few hardware stores and cannot find Simichrome. Is there any other polish that will do just as good a job? I want to polish my bolt and chamber before I go shooting on Wednesday and having to buy the Simichrome off Amazon or something will take too long. Thanks. |

just about any metalpolish would work fine. i just used some mag polish. i'm assuming you'll be using a swab mounted in a drill for the chamber, huh? that'll work fine for the rest of the bolt too. make sure you pay attention to the mating surfaces when you pull it apart to polish. looking good doesn't help if you miss the parts that make a difference. i just did mine and it's so smooth i laugh when i cycle rounds now. BE REALLY CAREFUL WHEN DOING THE COCKING KNOB. TAKE MUCH METAL OFF THE PART THAT STICKS OUT THE BOTTOM AND YOU'LL HAVE A HAIR TRIGGER OR HAVE SLAM-FIRES. A LITTLE BIT WORKS WONDERS FOR SMOOTHING OUT THE TRIGGER THOUGH!

I am just polishing the chamber, nothing is wrong with it. As for the bolt, I want to see if I can get smooth cycling and also a better shine. I have some mother's chrome polish that I use on my wheels...would that work? Also, can I use the mini-ball thing that Mother's makes? It connects to a drill and when I use it on my wheels it seems to speed up things as well as polishes a bit better. |

I go to a jewelry store and get heavy duty jewelry polishing cloths. They work like a charm. In fact, i've used them on my stainless single action revolver and it's so incredibly shiny it's like a chameleon, when you take it into the trees the greens and browns are reflected in the stainless steel so well that the gun becomes damn close to invisible. Definitely as good a camoflage as a shotgun with a realtree finish any day.

Just get yourself some gunbutter and or the grease. It'll make it slide better then any polish, not to mention allow for much quicker and easier clean up where ever you used it. http://www.gunbutter.com/index.htm

I've gotten Simichrome at places as disparate as hardware stores, auto-parts stores and jewelers. It really is the greatest metal polish I've ever found. I use it on jewelry, my antique camera collection and the bolts of my Mosins. I wouldn't be without it. Here are a couple of links for buying it online: Simichrome Polish - Winter Brook Farm Antiques Simichrome Metal Polish: Legacy Tack SIMICHROME POLISH Cool Tool: Simichrome Metal Polish Simichrome Tubes 1.76 oz 50 Grams each All Metal Polish, Free Shipping |
