| Registered User | Mosins on tv! I was watching a show on PBS call War of the Worlds. It was talking about the Cold War and all the little known wars in the 3rd World. They were showing some revolutionaries in Guatemala in the 60's and most of them were carrying 91/30's!! I thought that was cool. ![]()

Was just watching a show on the milltary channel about the top 10 battle rifles. Mosin Nagant didn't make the top ten, but did get an honorable mention.

Even I think the Garand should be above the Mosin. But I would have had it in the top ten. It should surely get bonus points for longevity.

WNET, the PBS affiliate in New York, is running that last episode, "The Icebox," at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 20th. Check your local listings. Look for "War of the World" without the -s on World--otherwise you might get something with Tom Cruise and Martians. "The Icebox" is the episode iflylow74 is talking about. It's about the Cold War. The series has three parts, and I only caught that one, but it was pretty interesting and made me want to see all three. The series is based on Niall Ferguson's book of the same name. His viewpoint is that the 20th century was pretty much one interconnected war caused by the breakup of empires: British, Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, Soviet, and so on. He sees the whole 20th century as a struggle between East and West, and not everybody is going to like his conclusion: It ain't over, and the East is winning. I may be oversimplifying, but it sounded to me as if that was what he was saying. The whole series is for sale here: Shop PBS - Shop by Topic: History: War & Military: The War of the World: A New History of the 20th Century DVD

That would be Simo Häyhä. I believe he used an M27 with iron sights. I've never seen that episode of Weaponology. I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

In the movie "Hot Fuzz" there is that old guy that gets all his guns confiscated, and there are like 20 Mosins that they pick up.
