Zhang Taofang

Known to be the best sniper in the Korean War, killing 234 UN troops within 32 days, all with a Mosin and no-scope. But can someone tell me WTF is up with his Mosin in this pic:

Sniper

EDIT: LOL I just realized there was a rock in front of the gun making the magazine look squarish. I'm stupid my fault.

The rock just blends in and at first glance it is hard to decipher. But with my eagle eye for detail I noticed it right away.

Yes, the rock is blocking/concealing/hiding the rest of the mag. FWIW, MHO anyways.

From the looks of the rear sight, he's doing a bit of long-range work, as well.

Seems questionable

This comes out to about 6.9 hits per day which is very high.
I'm not saying it could not happen but it doesn't seem likely
especially for a non-scoped weapon. Also, exactly who verified the count?

It might have been possible during the earliest part of the retreat from the Yalu River if they were chasing South Korean forces but I just can't wrap myself around it happening.

It might be kinda like with Simo Hayha. Simo got over 500 confirmed kills with a Mosin, but this is really only because of the Soviet Mass Wave tactics where they would just send an overwhelming amount of troops at a particular area at once.

I think most sniper numbers are vague at best.

+1 I think many of them are unconfirmed, alot of times they are shooting a long way out and many times way back in the day, they would operate alone, away from the normal infantry. But maybe in the same area where differentiating between who killed who would be pretty tough.

When north Korea invaded South Korea the U.N security council voted
to come to the rescue of S. Korea. The seven nation security council has to vote unanimously to do this, the U.S.S.R and China boycotted the meeting in support of North Korea thinking the international community would not get involved. This was the first and last time any member of the security council did this. The U.N forces in Korea were not the peace keeping forces like we have seen in Somalia, Bosnia, e.t.c, but an actual
international army under the command of U.S forces. So it was basically the world Vs. North Korea.
