Mosin Mystery

I just got back from the pawnshop. While I was there, I was hoping to find a good cheap 91/30. They didnt have any but what they did have was what looked like a m-38 (no bayonet) with asian looking letters on the top and the year 1953 or so. I believe it had the arrow with the circle around it. The price tag said it was a Swedish rifle and the price was $149. I figure the Swedish part was wrong but does this sound familiar to anyone? The price seemed high to me unless it was something rare. Condition looked to be average.

Well if its a m38 I think that they go for more money than the regular m44, 91/30 but i have no idea on the circle with an arrow.

edit**

Upon doing some further research I found something called Estonian Mosin nagants

F Fagersta Steel (Swedish)

U Uddeholm Steel (Swedish) those are some of the swedish markings

http://www.estonianarms.com/TheEstonianMosinNagant.htm

Thers a site with some info on the gun

1944-53(?) : The anti-Soviet resistance group known as "The Forest Brothers" carry on a guerilla type war with the communists. Over 15,000 of the "Forest Brothers" would die and countless Estonians were deported to Siberia or other labor camps in the USSR in this time period.

So mabey it was used by the estonians?

Triangle with arrow or star with arrow, yes. Never heard of a circle with arrow.

But I'm new fairly new to this game

Could your mark be a circle with a triangle inside it, and a "T" inside that? If it is, it's a Finnish Tikka Mosin. Otherwise, I'm wondering if you might have a ChiCom Type 53 with the bayonet lug ground off.

Im not 100% sure but I think it had a circle with an arrow inside. If it is a ChiCom type 53, does $149 sound like too much?

Does the carbine have it's military stock complete, or is it cut down? Any evidence of the bayo channel in the wood?

I have a T53 Chinese Mosin with cutdown stock, and bayo lug removed - also the barrel shortened by about an inch! Professional blue job looks good.
I have been told an importer brought a bunch of these in many years ago, and had them cut down and refinished as cheap 'deer rifles' for the non-collectors among us.

Too bad - the stock has gorgeous wood - looks like either walnut or a dark mahogany - I'd kill to have a full military stock in this wood!

If it's got a circle with an arrow in it, it might have come from the Cherokee tribal Mosin works in Oklahoma!

Too late, Tex! I was born corrupted! And wandering... (Or was that wondering...?)

I may have corrupted a few of these folks myself! Mosinitis is kickin' in so strong, I'm oozing Cosmolene. I'm still waiting to hear back about my loaned-out Imperial 1891 that my dead friend's wife sold off to her nephew... I don't want to go to court just to get it back!

I DO wish you luck with that. Going to court is not fun at all. Even if it costs you a few bucks to get it back it would be worth it not going to court
