| Romanian M44s Well I happened across a Romanian M44 unknowingly and bought it at the gun show yesterday. I was looking for a fixer-upper for the hell of it to refinish it and re-blue it myself and maybe throw a scope on it and see how it does. One of the long eye relief ones, I won't drill it. I'll get some pics up tomorrow hopefully. The guy was selling it for $225. I told him he'd have to do a whole lot better than that if I was going to buy it. So he said $200. I said no way man thats way too high, he'd have to do better than that still. He said $150, and I told him if he'd go to $125 I'd buy it. He said no, and his wife was like NO NO WAY and I was like, whoa she doesn't want to sell it. He said he bought it for $125 whenever.....So I checked the barrel out more and the bore was really good. Unfortunately non-matching. I tried to get him to come down more by informing him of the mis-matched parts, and it was built in a common arsenal. I figured they changed the marking of the Izhevsk arsenal a little. It didn't look normal. There were even an "LD" in the serial number not in Russian. It is dated 1955, so I figured they changed it a little by then. But keep in mind I thought this was a Russian Izzy M44 the whole time I was trying to get him to lower his price. Well we agreed on $140. Maybe a little high, but the bore was really nice, as well as the trigger on it, so I am hoping it will make a nice shooter. I brought it home and did some research on it after I discovered a very small stamp by the import stamp that said it was Romanian halfway under the front end of the stock on the barrel near the muzzle. So what do you guys think did I get a good deal? I thought it was decent, probably close to the price I'd pay in a store after taxes and stuff, or shipping if I were to buy on online. Then, that M44 I bitched about I saw at Cabela's for $225 is a Romanian one too. Live and learn I guess, live and learn................Glad I found out that info though. Next time I won't screw it up.

| Not a real rare version, but $140 is not bad. The 1953 is the rarest... I used to hav eone and still kick myself for selling it.... Oh well. ![]()
