Alright, but what about gas blowby in the counterbore area? Does that effect accuracy? Will it make the bullet wobble or push it in an odd direction?

Does anyone have an M44 that isn't counterbored? All of mine are. On the other hand, none of my M91/30's are counterbored.

Counter boring is ok a little bit but I had an sks that literally had half the barrel counter bored. I wonder if you can make shot loads for 7.62x39

| As far as ballistics go, the beginning of the counterbored area is no different than the end of the barrel.

wouldn't counterboring be a bit like "crowning" a rifle?

| counter boring
had a fella tell me I sold him an M1 Garand barrel that was countered bored (sold ON GB). I told him none of my barrels were counterd bored.
he said ME gaged at 2...
my question is... If the barrel was countered bored would the ME still gage a 2...
I would think the gage would fall in.
what else is funny is when I gaged the barrel before i sold it I swear it was a 1....now hes sayin its a 2..
its a mystery!
any words on this
thanks

My 31 Tula is counter bored. I assume it must've needed it. It shoots good for all practical purposes.

LD | My M44 isn't counter bored. It is a post-war production and was in excellent condition.

Basically, it's a way of recrowning without having to chop off some of the end of a barrel. Plus it's recessed then, and hard to re-damage the crown.

Counterbored barrels won't shoot as accurate as barrels that the riflings go to the end of the barrel because of the trauma created when the gasses are released in a short but confined area and allowed to effect the bullet.BUT the accuracy gained by eleminating damaged riflings is so great that it seems like a miracle. It is a way to gain accuracy without loosing original barrel length and gain accuracy. ,,,sam.

LD | I do and I just purchased a barreled receiver that is not counter bored, as I mentioned in another post I just found another in Clackamas Oregon that was practically shot out ..counter boring would not help that rifle...but if he would have taken less than 100 bucks my new barreled receiver would have helped it a lot! |
