Foreign Legion had Mosin Nagants? I would think they would use French guns for sure.

they've had different weapons from many different countries throughout their career....on top of that, the french foreign legion isn't acknowledged by the french gov't as a french military addition or anything....it's like a private military, atleast in the frenchy's eyes.

so....it could mean that they would be least likely to have french weps, since france doesnt acknowledge them, they prolly dont get any discounts on weps....plus, if french weps were never used in combat, how'd they know if they even worked?

Post Info for scout-scoping Mosins in general.

Iron Colonel:

91/30 scout project

Well I said screw the Romanian M44 scout project. The setup on it was just crappy, so I took the scope and put it on my 91/30 instead. The cheap scope mount wasn't worth it. It wasn't solid enough for me.

It was a piece of cake really. The hardest part was finding scope rings for the scope that were tall enough to clear the receiver and the top piece of the stock. I finally found some Burris high mount 1" scope rings to fit my scope. They were about $20, which wasn't too bad. The only thing that had me worried about them is they are for a .22 cal gun. But they were the only thing small enough to fit the half inch apart grooves. They are nice and tight, and quite solid.

Drifting off the rear sight was of no challenge at all. I punched out the two pins, and the rear sight assembly drifted right off the grooves with nearly no effort at all. I did remove the front sight. The scope was sitting quite low, and they were in the way. I have assembled the gun, and now am hoping to shoot it today. I will dutifully post a range report when that happens. Here are a few pics.

Geo M44:

- Rifle (Nataliya) is a 1947 M44.
- Scope is an NC Star 2-7 x 32 (ebay)
- Mount and Rings came with the scope as a kit (ebay)
- Scope rail has been trimmed at both ends for accessibility and looks.
- After initial post firing adjustment it has held zero for about 200 rounds.

gandog56: Darrell's scope mount. Had an NC Star 2-7x LER, decided to swap that with a BSA Red Dot because I can get on target faster with it. Send email to this address to pre-order a Darrel's Scout Mount: m39scout@bellsouth.net Click http://www.tickbitesupply.com/ for the custom buttpad shown in 2nd pic.

Some pics will be of standard/bent bolt mounting.

Divided the posts, didn't know when/if i'd run outta room.

jack007:

ingous:
The scope mount is an ATI kit and it's drilled into the receiver. This kit also requires the bolt to be converted. As you already noticed there is not much clearance between the bolt when it rotates and the mount. I would (will) stay away from this system in the future.

The infamous picture that started this whole 'direct-mount to dovetail' scene (owner-Zephri):
