The rings that come with scope are for weaver style(1inch) rails, but they have something helpful.
The inside of rings have a soft layer of "shim" to keep scope from getting scuffed by rings.
If you remove the layer of shim from the included rings and apply it to the verti-split rings, you will have higher success of protecting your scope tube from abrasions caused by scrubbing against rings during mounting/aligning procedure. It will also allow you to rotate scope a lil to fine tune the horizontal-vertical wires without scratching scope tube.
Mount rings as instructed on back of package.
Bushnell also makes some verti-split rings that are identical in craftsmanship as the Leupold models, and Bushnell seems a few dollars cheaper.
Make sure not to overtighten screws in rings, I tend to hold them by short end of allen wrench and turn till u cant turn anymore, then switch to long end and tighten another 1/8th of a turn.
If you tighten till it squeaks, it’ll deform the threads and reduce the lifetime of the rings.
It can also warp the scope tube if tightened too far.
These are examples of what it should look like upon completion:

Hey mike I got a guestion for ya, on my dovetail it goes from a bevel to 3/8flat across. On yours it looks more like goes from bevel, up about 1/4-1/8 inch then 3/8 across. And it also looks like you have the rings clamped on the 1/4 up part. My gun didn't have that so my rings got clamped to the bevel part and they failed I will include a pic so you can maybe understand what my poor discription is trying to say.

hmmmm, mine is actually same width front to back....not sure what ur experiencing, it looks like u got a wider lump of metal towards middle....never seen that before....was the rear sight base held on by pins or a flathead screw? if it were screw, u'd know what i meant....mine has the screw, the pins were later model, and they might have added some stuff....i'm sorry it didnt work out, have you tried seeing if that lump is actually some solder or something that didnt come off? and with the measurement of dovetail....are u saying ur's is not same width(viewed from above) front to back? like it's skinnier at one end than middle or other end? Mike.
Mike, what year is your rifle? Mine is a 1938, and the rail on mine looks a little smaller than yours. Maybe it's my imagination.
I found some Millet rings to mount my scope with. They were silver, I had to paint them black. I've test-fitted everything, and it seems like it'll work fine, but I'm concerned about how well the rings will hold up to the recoil.
Also, does your front sight interfere? I can see mine in the scope, but I haven't taken her to the range. While it's all apart I'm going to refinish the stock and do some serious cosmo cleaning. Got nothing but time.

The gun is a 43 izz no solder just pins holding it. It didn't clamp on the same way it looks like yours did I think that is the problem?

You probably wont see your front sight. The front sights on my ARs are invisible looking thru the scope.
sorry been outta town without computer....mine is a 1936....the rings i stated hold up well....havent tried any others(hard-headed maybe?) <do not comment steve/marion>....the front sight should be removed with my setup....depending on type of sight, i had a half-moon shaped figure sitting in my view(top half of sight shroud)....and lunchbox tisk tisk - you may just have a random odd-ball dovetail, or maybe mine is randomly perfect I would keep trying to find a good 'bite', and aluminum rings hold up better, the aluminum is just malleable enuff to encase itself around the micro-particals of rough steel. under a microscope it would look like silver putty(the aluminum) sinking into jagged crevices(the steel of receiver). if this don't help ya....maybe my brain will work better after eating a BBQ sammich....mmmm, it smells grrreat!!!!
It worked out pretty well on mine. I used a one piece, Leapers Accushot 3/8" dovetail mount #RGPM2PA-25M4 With the NCStar scope in silver. I bead blasted the mount to match the rifle and scope. The mount is a tad too long. A few minutes at the grinder should fix the problem but as you can see from the pic the rear spring on my rifle is broken and the gun seems to shoot better with the top hand guard pushed forward a bit anyway!
After sighting it in I shot this 5 shot group at 100 Yds. using Winchester ammo. I'm quite pleased to not only be able to see the target at 100 Yds. but also hit it!
that actually is a good idea for a mount setup, especially for people having probs with maybe unevenly cut dovetails etc....lunchbox, you might wanna try that mount....it looks to be aluminum, so hopefully it'll bite well. Good Luck with ur shooting greenninja5150
