Have to agree with the recoil pad thing, hate to see something done to a firearm that you can't take back. Especially a Mosin. The recoil is half the fun of shooting one.

That happened to me when I was in my late teens and it took me switching from my natural left hand shooting style to right handed and dropping down to real light cartridges to cure the flinch. I don't mind the recoil these days but I have been avoiding rifles with heavy recoil ever since. However, I find the Mosin to be quite comfortable to shoot even with out a recoil pad.

I will tell you, the hardest thing for someone to do is to unlearn a flinch. I worked with a bunch of joes in my day, and it takes a lot of time and ammo to get someone back on track.

That forced me to think more about what I was doing and slow down my trigger control. Felt awkward at first but after I got used to it was not bad. Good hearing protection helped as well.

If it weren't for an old rotator cuff tear, I would probably go with the recoil. But I'm old and it hurts!

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. Therefore spend all thy money on Mosin Nagants.

Bless me father, for I have sinned.
It has been six days since my last range trip
I have looked at an Enfield with lust in my heart. I have tried to stay true to my Mosins, but that K98 was sure looking pretty.

I went shooting the M44 and I was thinking about seeing if I flinched. Thanks to this thread. I was not flinching even shooting that cannon.
Ummm do we need to be concerned about Gandog? I think he's lost it.

Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, and sayeth: This people doth say: The time is not yet come to buy Lee Enfields or German Mausers. Then spake the Lord by the Prophet Aggeus, and said: Ye yourselves can find time to dwell in *siled houses, and shall this house lay waste? Consider now your own ways in your hearts ( sayeth the Lord of hosts )ye sow much, but yee bring little in: ye eat, but ye have not enough: ye drink, but ye are not filled: ye deck yourselves, but ye are not warm: and he that earneth any wage, putteth it in a new Mosin Nagant.

Better watch it Gdog! If you commit blasphemy of the Nagant Spirit you will spend eternity in the Lake of Cosmoline with a punishment of no Hoppes #9!
