That is correct.

The reason primers are considered "corrosive" is because they contain Potassium Chlorate, which is a contact explosive and oxidizer (one of many in a mix of stuff that goes into a primer compound). This then turns into Potassium Chloride after the oxygen is released; this is considered a "salt" much like Sodium Chloride (a.k.a., table salt) that will corrode metals by attracting water and assisting in oxidation. So, when you're removing corrosive powder residue from your firearm, consider what you'd do if someone blew powdered table salt down the barrel (the correct answer is: rinse with warm water and scrub).

The main difference between Berdan and Boxer primers is that the anvil that the firing pin "pinches" the primer compound against is either A) attached to the case or B) attached to the primer cup, respectively. This difference in design also leads to having two flash holes and one flash hole, respectively.

a very close friend of mine went through the same question got the svd(or some knock off) and liked it.till he got a nagant and scoped ithe says the svd is twice the weight and half as accurate.also has all kinds of internal problems.

wow so just using bore scrubber,hoppes 9, and oil etc. isnt enough? I should be running warm water through the barrel?

I use windex to flush the rifle AT THE Range, wipe off the bolt, the front of the barrel and sight, and flush the bore and swab it...When I get home it gets a normal Cleaning and oiling...and use a 30 cal. Boresnake !

I bring a Half gallon of Vodka. After shooting I open the bottle. I pour a couple shots down the bore and drink the rest. Then I call a cab to take me home. When I get let out of the drunk tank I finish cleaning my Mosin.

I've held a Romak III at Centerfire. The man that worked there was very nice, and said that even though they had none in stock, he went and got one that was about to be shipped out, just so I could see one.

It was smaller than I thought it'd be. It was covered in cosmoline and the parts seemed to be a tad loose...

The man that brought it to me said it was a very fine weapon, though.

He kept calling it a Dragunov, though, and I was like ">.> You know this is a Romak III, right..?"

Then again, who knows. Maybe it really was an SVD, because when he went in the back to go grab it he called out to one of his co-workers and asked if they had any SVD's.

Calling ROMAK's an SVD or Dragunov Just because they shoot the same Cartridge is is like calling an AK an RPK , To us Real Dragunov owners, it is something that raises our Blood pressure... Because we Know the difference...And it is a BIG difference...nothing is interchangeable,
Even the Magazines are Not interchangeable...

Assume that all MilSurp is corrosive, and counter to that is assume that all commercial ammo is non-corrosive.

Commercial ammo:

Brown Bear, Silver Bear (steel cased, non-corrosive, Berdan primed) Not reloadable.
Winchester, Igman, Sellier & Bellot, Prvi Partizan, Wolf Gold, HotShot(Brass Case, non-corrosive, Boxer primed) reloadable.

Note that:
Bear ammo is made in Russia.
Winchester and S&B are made in the Czech Republic (same factory).
Prvi Partizan, Wolf Gold, and HotShot are from Serbia (same factory).
I don't remember where Igman is made, but I think Sebia as well.

Brass quality is very good on ammo from the Czech Republic, lesser quality from Serbia, but reloads very well from either. This also goes for the accuracy and consistancy as well.

The Brown Bear shoots pretty consistantly, the 203gr. Silver bear not as good. For hunting I would use S&B or Winchester.
