| M N 91 markings
I just got a 91 mosin nagant, It is dated 1917, but it looks like most of the markings have been removed. Any idea why the markings are gone.

usual reason is that the country that gave them as aid, or sold them to large arms dealers require the identifing marks scrubbed, so some country can say they were supplying rebels, or such. also this one being made in the Czars reign the REDS, removed all vestages of Czars crests which were on the Mosins. check out www.mosin-nagant.net lots of good info there Last edited by PAPA G; 10-30-2002 at 12:02 AM. |

I lucked out with my ol' 91. The Tzarist markings are still there, and the rifle is dated 1916. My 91/30 has some odd markings that took me some time to track down - turns out it's Serbian!
